Re: K-Drama: 카인과 아벨 (Cain and Abel)

Hi,

I just watched episode 10 here. I must say, aside from being really nice to look at, So Ji Sub is impressive in his acting of this role. I've always liked him as an actor, but he seems to have grown even more, judging from this.

Shin Hyun Joon is also doing a good job, but aside from the one in charge of the ER? (maybe not her job?), I don't like any of the women in this one. Seems to me they're all self serving and irritating. In my opinion.

I do like this drama.

Re: K-Drama: 카인과 아벨 (Cain and Abel)

I do like this drama. But I guess I would like any drama that So Jisub is in, hahaha...

This drama is just like so many others with one leaves his 'love of life' without telling her the reason and years later comes back wanting to resume the relationship like nothing has happened. If the brother is really in love with the girl, why can't he tell her about his illness? Then after he is gone, he has no communication with her even knowing her health is bad. Then he blames his brother for being in love with her after helping her through her bad time. How pathetic.

I hope Cho-In will remember who he really is soon.

Have a good weekend. Image

Re: K-Drama: 카인과 아벨 (Cain and Abel)

I have posted on the Ji Sub forum but I have to say again here that this drama is not making me hungry for the next week's showings. I love So Ji Sub of course and he is doing a great job with all the terrible scenes he goes through and he also does a good job of being an amnesiac. This is something that can be overdone but he hits just the right level.

The way this drama goes it is very haphazard to me. It jumps all over the place and just when it seems there is going to be a real leap forward for Cho In, the director changes to something else. Usually it is boring scenes in the hospital with the Gang of three. Or it will be the gal who is seemingly in love with Cho In but she is without emotions. So COLD even tho she gets weepy etc. Not my favourite character.
I agree with nchristi that the accent taken by the actress for a N.Korean one is so irritating. she DOES sound like Bori.

I want to see So Ji Sub in another role soon where he does not look lean and hungry and can stand up straight in decent clothes. He is so good looking and so tall and those shoulders!!! Straighten up and fly right Jisub.

Brad6,

He's all straight and tall and gorgeous in his newest movie Rough Cut. Definitely worth watching just for him.

I can't take the girl's accent either. Okay, I can't take the girl. I couldn't from the first time she appeared. emoticon Another one of those overbearing, presumptuous characters, that I'm really tired of seeing in dramas. The writers need to stretch their minds a little and come up with something new.

I do like the drama. That's more due to So Ji Sub, than anything else. He's very good in this role. He's becoming better and better.

K-Drama: 카인과 아벨 (Cain and Abel)

I have never been comfortable with the accent that the North Korean girl and many rural S. Koreans have in the same way that I have never liked our own southern accent. Both can only be taken for short periods of time. I wonder if they feel the same way about us? We certainly must sound weird to them as well.
As for the women playing opposite the very appealing Ji Sub, I find that we tend to be much more critical of co-stars when the male lead is such a "hunk", oftentimes the women don't seem to measure up. although bothersome, I think the refugee is behaving in ways that are congruent to her past lifestyle and therefore I don't fault her as much as several of my co-posters do.
What is hard to watch is the depths that vengeance and resentment can take a person

This is still worth watching just to see Jisub. He did not lose any of his acting chops over the two years away and indeed I think he matured in a very positive way. He is definitely his own man and I think has his own mindset about his life. He does not show it too much but he will drive his own course and we can expect interesting roles from him.

re accents.

Oh Dear. I have lived in US for many years longer than I lived in UK, my home country. I never thought about my speech until the other day. I heard a voice talking on my answer phone. At first I wondered who it was because it sounded like an English woman. I then recognised the subject matter and realised it was my own voice. People here have commented that I have an English acent but I never believed them as I had been told my my English relatives that I sounded somewhat American.
If anyone does not like how I sound I am too old to change now I think !!!!

Re: K-Drama: 카인과 아벨 (Cain and Abel)

I usually don't care much for the female characters who have to control and manipulate everything—and are loud doing it! LOL! However, Young-ji is the first one who doesn't really bother me all that much. I like this actress. The first time I saw her in anything was in Capital Scandal/Scandal in Old Seoul. A completely different type of character, but I enjoyed her performance.

In this one, I think I am more lenient towards her behavior because it would take a really strong, aggressive person to escape from North Korea, survive in China as a young woman, then get herself somehow into South Korea and have the gumption and will to get a life going there, too. It all seems rather believable to me, from that point of view.

Even though YJ is determined to stick with Cho-in and wants him to remain 'Kang-ho' so he won't leave her, still her conscience is such that she has now realized how unfair and selfish she is being in asking him to sacrifice who he really is.

I am awaiting the day Veggie Dad is moving—and talking! I'm sure that will all happen at a dramatically well-placed moment in our drama! Maybe with his recurring brain tumor, Sunwoo will become Veggie Son, with surgery reducing him to the same state as his father underwent. Turnabout is fair play. Wouldn't that be the ultimate payback for all he's done to Cho-in? To his mother, also. She lives vicariously off her son's success. It would about kill her to see him reduced to a bed-ridden, mentally incompetent state, I'm sure.

I don't know how this is going to end up, but this drama seems to have more than the customary number of ugly villains who deserve some major payback.

I'm still betting that Cho In will regain all his memory and come to the rescue of his father. He is also a fine neuro surgeon. I don't know if he will do the same for his brother if he finds out what dreadful plans were made and carried out to eliminate him.

Re: K-Drama: 카인과 아벨 (Cain and Abel)

Iam not a big K drama fan but the show dragged me in after I caught one of the early episodes. One of the best parts that makes this series so easy to watch is that everything is very black and white. Good is Good and Bad are Bad is this show.

Everybody who wants to usurp the father in the semi vegetative state especially mommy dearest come right out in their meetings, and openly voice their horror at keeping the public part of the hospital open. And how they want to turn the hospital into a private neurosurgery hospital. Every time I see mommy dearest like in last nights episode I keep wondering where are her flying monkeys and the broom stick were?

I have to admit I am still not too sure which way which the old girlfriend, the singer is going to go. But then thats been half the fun. And then there's that little girl from North Korea.

Re: K-Drama: 카인과 아벨 (Cain and Abel)

Tom Cat,
I had my misgivings about this drama at first. I greatly admire Jisub's acting and he can play a serious dramatic role so well. However, the people in the hospital were so OTT that I felt it was a bit of a farce. Witch Mom was impossible to believe. You just know that when they all talk infront of veggie father that he knows just what they are saying. When Cho In eventually does the final surgery on his father, all will be revealed. Maybe some will be known before. Cho In now, is pretending to be an amnesiac.
I thought he did not look heartbroken when he saw his brother embracing his former fiancee. In fact by the light of his eyes alone I thought he just looked mad and angry. There will be fireworks later I think.
I did not cotton on to the fiancee actress at all. Seems dull and ralther too cold. Not an interesting character.
Brother is a hoot. He is such a good actor and you know he must be dying to break into a laugh with some of his scenes being so dastardly.
