Re: K-Drama: 솔약국집 아들들 (My Too Perfect Sons)
Episode 37-A
While I can appreciate Yi Pilmo's wonderful ability to give life and distinctive character to Daepung, I just cannot get into liking Daepung. Last night was one of my favorite episodes—DP is finally getting a little awareness of his own deficiencies. I laughed as he tooled into the hospital parking lot, backs in and runs up over the curb in his little old car. And who comes zooming by in his fancy red sports car, adeptly parking in his space with great precision? Dr. Park Hyeonwu!
Loved the cafeteria conversation, DP sputtering and fuming while the veil is lifted further from his eyes, hearing that Jennifer and Dr. Park 'lived together' in the States during med school (neighbors), that they were close friends, that Hyeonwu knows Jennifer much better than he does. Poor DP has lived with the delusion that Boksil belongs to him, that she has no other life outside of what revolved around him. Painfully, and confusingly, he is seeing what he has never known. (He's been a big fish in a tiny puddle for way too long.)
Of course, Boksil/Jennifer will end up with Daepung. That's a given. I'm hoping we will see DP begin his turnaround now. I will enjoy watching him grow and become a man who is not a walking joke. I hope those days are now behind him and that we will go forward with a new Daepung.
I missed the episode of Jinpung's mom begging Sujin to stay away from her son so he can marry the teacher. I was wondering why SJ was so standoffish toward JP. It didn't seem that merely seeing JP with the teacher would cause her to so completely cut him off. Well, that's a pretty difficult obstacle for Sujin to overcome—JP's mother begging on her knees for SJ to disappear from the picture.
What a mess with Eunji and Seonpung—a marriage of two emotional babies. They'll work it out, though. I love the actress who plays EJ's mom, too. Like Yi Pilmo, she can make any character come alive and be 'real.' Wonderful actress. Even Yi PIlmo has a ways to go to catch up to her ability and talent. Unfortunately, we mostly see her in limited, cliché roles.
Hana's story - Yes, very sad. Makes her character more understandable. It's hard to give others what you don't have yourself. How could she be expected to be a good mother with her background, especially at her young age? Mipung is the perfect counterbalance to that, isn't he? He is such a loving, good-hearted guy. Responsible, too, in the areas that are important. I really like him.

Did JP feel ashamed at himself for raising his voice to Mom? Did he forget that he slugged DP as punishment when DP raised his voice to Mom?

Re: K-Drama: 솔약국집 아들들 (My Too Perfect Sons)
Episode 38
Jinpung is sick (drinking too much), sleeping in his room and not coming out. Same as Daepung did when Boksil disappeared.
The family and Boksil meet in the hospital parking lot, she drives them all home and tells them her story. Afterward as she's walking down the alleyway, she comes across DP walking home. He asks her if they can return to the way they were. There's no going back, says Jennifer. DP cries and screams "BOKSIL" as she walks away without turning back, tears streaming down his cheeks.
Well, I guess Jinpung's yelling at his mother would be about the most shocking thing ever in her life. JP has always been the perfect, obedient, and respectful son. Now he yells in her face as none of her sons have ever done. I'm sure he feels guilty about that, too, but she has pushed and forced all her sons for too many years to do what pleases her, without consideration for them. Even with the school teacher, Mom seems most concerned with a) marrying off her 40-year old son (an embarrassment to her); and b) what a wonderful time she's going to have with the home ec teacher as her #1 DIL. JP was pushed to the limit and exploded—plus he had a bad hangover and probably didn't want to hear any more of Mom's screaming rant and fists all over him.
Oh, I was watching a fan-subbed version of the episode where Jennifer gets all over her father's case for how he neglected her mother when she was dying. It gave greater details. Jennifer's mother was Dad's first love but he was forced to marry someone else. The official wife was the mother of Jennifer's sister, while Jennifer's mother was the 'hidden wife.' Apparently, good old dad maintained two families: one in Seoul, the other in the States. He would fly to the States a few times a year and both wives knew about the other.
Jennifer went off on her half-sister telling her she had no concept of how life was for she and her mother in the States. The half-sister then told Jennifer that it was no picnic for them either. How did Jennifer suppose the wife felt knowing he had another 'wife' and child in the States? And that he would go several times a year to be with them? It never was easy for any of them. The half-sister tells Jennifer to get off her high horse about the subject. Both mothers are now deceased, can't they all start over and go forward now without the pain of the past?

K-Drama: 솔약국집 아들들 (My Too Perfect Sons)
I never liked Yi Pilmo. He over-acts. He is silly on this show. I just can't stand it that he will end up with Jennifer who deserves better than him. I'm always disappointed when these dramas end. It is unbelievable how they paired the people. Welll, my 2 cents worth.
