Re: K-Drama: 솔약국집 아들들 (My Too Perfect Sons)
nchristi: thanks for clearing up some of the areas I missed.
Nsheldon wrote: Jinpung is the one I think will end up with the lawyer lady.
Things are starting to jell a little bit now. But I’m still not sure.
It’s hard to see anyone in a serious relation with daepung. He seems to like anything in a skirt.
And Seonpung seemed to like Boksil but is now shifting toward the “genius” actress.
Jinpung still seems to still be locked in on Hyerim, but we know that’s not going anywhere.
And Mipung… don’t see him with anyone.
She also wrote: Did you see Last Scandal of My Life? One of the most fun dramas ever...
Missed that one. I’ll be looking for it. Thanks.
Now a mystery lady has been introduced… Looks like she might be the actresses’ bio mom. Let’s see how they work this one in.
A lot of comedy in this one. I’m enjoying it. I’m hoping a miracle drug appears and saves Hyerim.

class blockquote Now a mystery lady has been introduced… Looks like she might be the actresses’ bio mom. That was my first thought, too. If it is, I'm thinking she got the hospital and/or paramedics to not let anyone know she was alive because maybe her face was so messed up. Otherwise, why would the medical people let the family think she didn't survive. Man, she better have a really good reason for being away from her daughter for so long.
LOL, I had no problem with her washing the bear as it might be the washable kind, but she left the ribbon (bow) on....can't see that coming out okay.
Dr. brother was so funny....he might consider himself the "man about town", but he really is insecure. He really fell for his mother's story. I'm glad she's calmed down on the hitting. For me, it got to the point of being over kill.
Lawyer SIL - for having the intelligence for being a lawyer, she doesn't have the common sense to wonder why her SIL is always so sick.
Motor Hubby - I'm glad they calmed down his personality and starting to make him a little more mature for his age.

Re: K-Drama: 솔약국집 아들들 (My Too Perfect Sons)
(Episode 10A shown on Wed night)
I really like "Bruters" (as the translator now renders the name Brutus). He is a really sweet, cute character and I like the actor playing him. I love it when he speaks English—so cute both in accent and in the emotional inflection he gives. A couple episodes back I took note of the fact that when Jinpung sat on Brutus' motorcycle (in his daydream), he looked about half the size of Brutus! Brutus has really fascinating hands, too. Not too shabby as an actor, either. He was spot on emotionally in his scene when he confesses to Gramps the reasons why he didn't study or get much book learning in his youth.
Brutus is such a good-hearted, sweet man who took, it seems, substantial physical abuse from the alcoholic father, diverting the beatings aimed at his mother. By taking the beatings himself, Brutus provided escape for his sister to study and become the attorney she is today. I found it especially heartwarming to see Gramps taking Brutus both under his wing and into his heart. It was also heartbreaking last night to see Brutus' nervous reaction in sensing his wife is about to reveal some really sad news to them about her health.
Talk about childish and silly, I wonder how Daepung ever got through med school?
As for Eunji's bio-mom showing up, her father knows the real story. He got mighty nervous the other day when he read in the paper that her mother—the famous designer from the States—has now returned to Seoul. I wonder if Ice Mom knows the whole story, too? How much does Eunji know? She knows the teddy bear saved her life in the car accident.

Re: K-Drama: 솔약국집 아들들 (My Too Perfect Sons)
I'm expecting one of these days to see Gramps all decked out like a biker! Brutus is learning a lot from him, but Gramps will also be exposed to some fun things with Brutus—not the least of which is the feeling of freedom in riding a motorcycle! I can see Gramps going through his second childhood with Brutus.
Daepung. Oh, man. It was too perfect that Lawyer brought along the kids on their 'date.' LOL! The one thing that 'date' did accomplish, though, was provide the stark contrast between Daepung and Jinpung—which type would make a better husband and father? DP will change in the future, but JP is a known quantity right now—kind, gentle, and loving to the core. I think you're right, nsheldon, that Sujin needs and is drawn to a gentle-hearted type like her brother, Brutus.
Another problem Lawyer and Daepung would have is they both largely demand to be in control wherever they are. I agree that Boksil is the perfect match for Daepung. I feel the same way about Lawyer being with Jinpung. These high-powered personalities frequently fare better with patient and kind mates who provide a less eye-catching, yet powerful 'frame' for their flashier mates. People first notice and look at the painting or picture within a frame, but the frame is what completes the picture and gives it stability and protection. Interestingly, the less obvious partner in public many times is the one in control in private.
I suspect Brutus' story about forcing his wife to marry him is probably more 'story' than fact. People choose mates for a lot of different reasons, especially after they pass the bloom of youth. Do we know why/how Hyerim was in the States? She seemed to really like Jinpung as her first love, but maybe she was one of those JP's mother put the nix on and drove away. Perhaps she felt she would never love again, so opted for a man who was kind-hearted, good-natured, fun, and who loved her intensely. Brutus provides a decent living for his family, is kind and loving to his children. His weakness is that he lacks a good head for managing the business of family and 'career' and just doesn't meet the traditional qualities imposed on men in that culture. Maybe Gramps will help him develop a little more in those directions.

As for Eunji's bio-mom showing up, her father knows the real story.I thought the couple she's living with is her aunt and uncle. I could not be remembering wrong, but at the anniversary memorial service, I thought I saw photos of both parents. She's in for the shock of her life, if that is her bio-mom. class blockquote not the least of which is the feeling of freedom in riding a motorcycle! They did show Gramps riding on the back behind Brutus or was that a dream sequence? class blockquote but maybe she was one of those JP's mother put the nix on and drove away.Could be. In a flashback scene, he went to her house one day and learned that they moved away. She never got to say goodbye to him. I'm also wondering if she married Brutus because she was pregnant. When his character was first introduced, he was such a "baby" that I found it hard to believe she would marry someone like that.
I keep forgetting to bring this up - that very first flashback scene was a hoot. Jinpung had long hair as a teenager. It was fun seeing all the adult actors looking young. The youngest bro was the only one they had to use a child actor because his age then was a little boy.

In a flashback scene, he went to her house one day and learned that they moved away. She never got to say goodbye to him. There was a scene early on (I think it might have been deleted from the KXLA airing) where Gramps is angry with Mom always complaining about Jinpung being unmarried. Gramps says it is her fault—not JP's—because she drove away several prospective DILs that JP was very interested in. Mom disapproved of each one for inconsequential reasons... one had unattractive heels, another a slightly crooked smile, for heavens sake.
I enjoyed those flashbacks of the boys, too. The funniest to me was Daepung having that wispy, longish styled hair. He was flipping it around in the cliché manner women are known to do to lure men—and that men mock among themselves. Too funny that Daepung actually was that way himself as a teenage type. LOL!
It is still mysterious why Hyerim would marry Brutus. I will be very surprised if she was pregnant and married for that reason. I lean more towards maybe JP was her true love and she just lost hope in life and somehow found herself lonely in the American culture. I can see her marrying a 'nice' ethnically Korean guy in the States, one who was crazy about her. Brutus wouldn't be difficult to handle or keep happy, since mentally he's rather child-like. Or, maybe her parents made an arranged-marriage deal with Brutus' mother.??
Hyerim can't be very disappointed in Brutus' capabilities—she had to know from the beginning exactly what Brutus was like and she seems okay with it. To her credit, Hyerim doesn't look down on Brutus. Her main frustration seems to be worry about finding a way to protect and care for him and the children after her death.
After Friday's episode, I'm wondering if this is it for Hyerim and she might die in JP's arms? Will she have a dying request for him to marry Sujin to ensure her family is well-cared for? Knowing Jinpung, he will promise her anything, willingly making such a personal sacrifice. But I also see Sujin and Jinpung liking one another and eventually being happy together as a couple.

Re: K-Drama: 솔약국집 아들들 (My Too Perfect Sons)
Episodes 9, 10 have finally been posted up on MySoju. I see in #9 that the mystery woman (Dad's sister) came to his office and met with him. There was a scene (deleted?) where they are talking outside on a bench. She's been gone for 20 years and wants to see "the girl" just one time. Dad is short and curt, cutting off the conversation and leaving.
Eunji is getting drunk at a tent bar because of a small article linking her with some other actor? She calls Seonpung while he's in his Russian language class and demands he come to talk with her as a "reporter." That's how he ends up with her being so drunk and piggybacking her home.
On Parent's Day, Boksil buys underwear for all the boys. I only mention this because I've noticed that several months ago "underwear" has been changed to the term "innerwear" in all the e-subs. I noticed a while back that famous Korean designer André Kim has come out with a line of really fancy (beautifully designed and embroidered) women's underwear, which he calls "André Kim's Innerwear."
Episode 10, at the Oh household, making memorial preps for Eunji's parents' memorial. The housekeeper is cooking and makes a comment to Ice Mom about EJ's mother being Dad Oh's sister. Ice Mom shuts her up by threateningly telling the maid she's been working at their home too long (knows too much and will lose her job if she mentions personal things again).
Dad goes upstairs to see Eunji, who is holding the teddy bear and looking at her parents' photograph. She knows her current mom and dad are really her aunt/uncle. Dad tells Eunji to be careful not to mention anything to Ice Mom about her bio-mom, how beautiful she was, that EJ looks just like her bio-mom, etc. Ice Mom has been extremely attached to Eunji since she came to live with them and wants to pretend Eunji is her daughter and no one else's. Dad tells Eunji to go outside and get some fresh air while Ice Mom and the maid cook the food for the memorial service. That's how EJ ends up taking the bear to the laundromat.
There are several brief scenes between Sujin and Brutus that are deleted. She tries to plant the suspicion in his mind that there's something going on between Jinpung and Hyerim. Brutus blows it off.
Earlier, in the tent bar scene with Hyerim and Jinpung, they talk about the Brothers Four album. When they were young, it was their favorite but the distributor had only one copy. HR bought it and gave it to JP as a gift. Now that she is sick he wants to give the album to her. After the scene where JP is looking for Gramps' receipt and is listening to Brutus tell how he married Hyerim, JP resents Brutus. They meet in the alleyway but Brutus is innocent to everything and asks JP to help him understand what he's doing wrong in writing 'dog.' JP explains it all to him. Then JP asks Brutus to give the album to Hyerim. Brutus acts as though he resents this request. JP acts guilty and nervous, but Brutus tells him he should give it to Hyerim himself—after all, JP was HR's best friend and she would appreciate it more directly from him than to have Brutus act as a go-between. Brutus tells Jinpung that Hyerim has been very ill and that he should go over the next morning to have tea with Hyerim, then give her the album. The next scene is of JP nervously going to the house, no one answering, then finding Hyerim unconscious on the floor...
