I willl have to look it up but I think my maternal Grandfather was alive when Atsuhime was in Edo and influencing things politically. I find it fascinating that Japan was so closed to the rest of the world and still not at all modern. However they must have had cameras because there are pictures of Japan scenes and the people.

I've had a nagging question that I don't know if anyone can answer: What do the women in the Satsuma Ooku do when there is no Lord or Lady around? It seems that all of Lord Nariakira's family is in Edo. I don't know why by I was surprised that he had two or three concubines.
