J-Drama: 篤姫 (Atsu-hime)

I truly am sad that Atsuhime is almost ending. This is such a gripping and good one. So many interesting things to note and watch. I was wondering if the ones carrying Tenshoin out of the Ooku were indeed women.

I was crying last night over what had occurred. So many people have said good bye to Tenshoin it was a testament to her will that she was only somewhat depressed other lesser character would have cracked after all that has happened.

I especially loved the last visit of Naogoro to Tenshoin, they have a really good relationship. They just pick up where they left off and talk about everything that has happened in between. And the Man was honest and open with her. I truly enjoyed this one. I am sad to see it end and hopefully we can see the last episode in its entirety.

Re: J-Drama: 篤姫 (Atsu-hime)

Peg, that's a good point about the women who were carrying Tenshoin's palanquin out of the Ooku. Rather than walk forward, they walked in a backwards direction so that they do not show their backs to Tenshoin. Until the very last moment, these women still demonstrated utmost respect to Lady Tenshoin. What a sense of duty and responsibility. I'm sure these women were also no doubt scared, wondering what the future held for them now that they had pretty much been thrown out of the Edo Castle Ooku, an isolated place where they had called home for so many years.

I read that Naogoro did indeed exist in real life. Like we saw in the drama, he was appointed as Satsuma Clan Councilor by Hisamitsu. However, I don't know if his relationship with Atsuhime was as close as we've seen in this drama. Perhaps they knew each other, but I don't know if Naogoro loved Atsu like we saw in this drama. I want to find out more about him -- it's interesting to see how much in this drama is historically accurate and how much was fictionalized.

Zashibear, Tenshoin really is a powerful woman. Looking back over our series, she's really had to part with so many people over the years. Her husband Iesada, her real family and friends in Satsuma, her adopted father Nariakira, Iemochi, Ikushima -- and now we have Takiyama, Shigeno, and Lady Seikanin (Kazunomiya) leaving her as well. Though she's depressed, she's really strong-willed to be able to resist the pain of having everyone around her leaving her.

J-Drama: 篤姫 (Atsu-hime)

I sent UTB an email regarding the last episode. I should know better than to expect an actual reply.
It will be very difficult to see Aoi chan in other roles. Even when I watch Nana now and then it does not seem like the same actress.

She has a new movie coming out next month
Don't know if it's already been posted:

Same here. Both of them were brilliant.

Diane,
I am pretty sure the ones on mysoju will have subs in English. However they will not be as precise maybe as the ones we have enjoyed recently. they sometimes cut out a word or phrase to put the thought a little differently. It is still clear what the scene will mean however,

NChan, welcome to the board! Thanks for posting here in our Atsuhime discussion -- hope you enjoy your stay with us here! emoticon Thanks for also posting those links -- sometimes I love to re-watch the earlier episodes just to see how our characters have developed and matured.

Diane, all three links posted are subtitled. Like Peg mentioned, though, the subtitles may be different than the subtitles we are used to on LA 18. They change phrases here and there.

Thanks for sending UTB an email, Ralph. I have a feeling they'll end up splitting the episode in two, but I wish they would air it all in one piece. I'd rather watch it all in one sitting!
