Re: J-Drama Video Club: starts Saturday, April 12th!!

I had a little difficulty in getting this to work. In SeaMonkey, Firefox, and Windows Explorer, a small 3"x5" window would appear on my screen and play the video nicely. However, I couldn't get the selection of "full screen" to work until after 6 or 7 attempts.

Many times clicking on the "full screen" choice simply did nothing. A few times the full screen would pop up with "buffering..." at the top left, but it was dead in the water and nothing would begin buffering or playing. I patiently tried all three browsers several times each and was about to give up. Then, finally, in Firefox the full screen appeared with the video playing.

The quality is excellent in the small 3x5 window, but in the full screen (my monitor is only 17" or less), the picture is fuzzy and the e-subs are noticeably pixelated and somewhat irritating to read. Is this the way it is? Or is there something I can do to improve the experience?

I'm not really looking forward to watching it in a 3x5 window... though I must say just watching the first few minutes so far, this looks like a really good drama and I'm looking forward to it. And I am very happy that no scenes will be deleted due to local TV station time constraints.

Thanks for setting up this J-video club, guys! emoticon

Re: J-Drama Video Club: starts Saturday, April 12th!!

Another question...

How long will the episode links be available in the Members Only Forum? Will they be there for us to refer back to if we wish to re-watch a particular episode? Or will the link be removed/replaced each week by the link for the next episode?

If there is a choice, I'd really like to have the previous links remain for a while in case I've missed an episode, or wish to revisit one already viewed/discussed.

No problem, nchristi! emoticon

Yep, the links to the episodes will remain there even when new episodes and/or a new series are added. That way, if somebody missed an episode or wants to re-watch something later on, it will always be there. We'll just add the following episodes to the list of the episodes already existing.

Yeah, when I tried to view the episode in full screen format, it was doing the same thing for me and wouldn't play. A new window would pop up, but it would say "Buffering" and just refuse to play. I ended up choosing the option called "Fit to Window". Its pretty much in the middle - its much larger than the original 3x5 box, but it doesn't open up a new window. Hope that option works better. emoticon

Re: J-Drama Video Club: starts Saturday, April 12th!!

I had no problem getting it to work and getting the large screen. However I had to stop about half way because the audio was repeating itself two or three times in each scene. I think it was in both the Japanese and Englsubs. It was really confusing and giving me a headache...Truly!. Had to stop. I hope this can be solved as it looks like a good drama.

Peg.

Re: J-Drama Video Club: starts Saturday, April 12th!!

Looks like I lucked out! I was able to get the full screen size to work eventually and without any problems with the audio, or anything else. I watched Episode 1 today and will post my remarks after noon tomorrow (Sunday), as per the guidelines in the first post above. (I presume it is noon PT, since that is CJK's posted time.)

BTW, Hiroshi, the various size options didn't work for me. I tried all the choices and the 3x5 size would become slightly smaller, of all things! I got to watch it, however, on the full screen size with no problems—other than what I mentioned in my former post about pixelation. But I quickly adjusted to that and got lost in the story itself.

Re: J-Drama Video Club: starts Saturday, April 12th!!

If you have a pop-up blocker then that would cause problems with the full screen option since it pops open in a new window. Firefox for sure has a built in one. I think others have adopted the same strategy. So that is probably the cause if some of you can't get the full screen to work.

I think for me the best viewing would be at Double Size and with Smooth Video checked. The "Original Size" is just too small although it does look crystal clear. Fit to Window is also nice since it doesn't open a new window. Fit to Window along with Smooth Video is also good.

If the subtitles look like they have rough edges or look pixelated, then Smooth Video will remedy this. I think the key to all of this is the Smooth Video option.

Here are some image examples of each option. By the way, my normal screen resolution is 1200x960 which is probably bigger than most people. Other than the full screen, does any of these match the way you watched it?

Smooth Video - Original Size
Smooth Video - Double Size
Smooth Video - Fit to Window

Without Smooth Video - Original Size
Without Smooth Video - Double Size
Without Smooth Video - Fit to Window

Notice how the subtitles get worse as the size increases without Smooth Video?

We went to great lengths to insure that the quality was more than satisfactory. We tried to preserve the quality of the original 640x480 video as much as possible and I believe we were able to achieve that. I also believe that the quality should look better than anything found on other popular streaming websites.

I think also it would benefit everyone to update their Adobe Flash versions if you can't get the various sizes to work or can't get the player to function properly. You can check what version you have here:

http://duber.com/LetsTalk/playerCheck.html

My version is WIN 9,0,124,0 which happens to be the latest one. You can get the latest one for your browser here:

Re: J-Drama Video Club: starts Saturday, April 12th!!

I had another go at this and re started the episode about half way and it worked fine. Also watched more, but I think I will wait for someone else to begin an opinion as I don't want to go past the first episode. You know I could easily do that!!!!

this is goihng to be fun.
