Re: J-Dramas Fan Get-Togethers

Just thought I would share the mini get-together from the Gardena Obon. I hope to see some of you at this last weekend of Nisei Week

Thanks for posting up the picture from our get-together at the Gardena obon, Vannessave! emoticon

The people in those houses across the street from the Gardena Buddhist Church sure are lucky... they can watch all the ondo dancing right from their living room window or front porch, LOL!

Hi, J-Drama Fans!!

There is a Japanese Gardens (run by the City of Los Angeles) off the 405+101, just a little north of Sherman Oaks (Van Nuys). Open Sunday, closed Saturday. Tours are only during the week, but maybe we can work something out. And, there is a Gift Shop!
Just found this thread... a little late I think.

Anyway, I visited the Japanese Garden a couple of years ago. I took some pictures and here's one of the lake there. I want to go back as soon as the Garden is in full bloom. It looks like they have open walking again according to their web site (adm $3).

As for the Obon, Erin and I usually meet at the Obon in Little Tokyo and then we meet again for the Nisei Week festival parade and the Bon Odori.
If any of you folks go there this year we will most likely be there also.

Here's my attempt to dance the Tanko Bushi at the Bon Odori last year:

Ralph, thanks so much for posting that beautiful picture of the Japanese Garden! I really enjoyed looking at it and have set it up as the background picture for my computer desktop. What a relaxing scene -- it looks like a garden belonging to one of those beautiful Kyoto temples.

Nice video of you dancing the Tanko Bushi dance at the Little Tokyo Obon festival! I'm looking forward to the Obon festivals this summer -- they are always so exciting and fun to attend. emoticon

That is a great idea for this picture. I will use it as my desk top also. I cut down the density for posting on the internet. If you need a better quality pic let me know and I'll upload one with more pixels.

I can't wait for the Obon and Nisei festival also. Last year Erin was looking for you at the Obon during the taiko drum recital in Litle Tokyo.

Re: J-Dramas Fan Get-Togethers

I must make a comment on this great thread. I was looking at the lovely photo posted by Vannessave. I realised that the person on the extreme right, with the handsome camera shy dog...is so much like the PD who appeared in the drama 'Worlds Within'. Remember he was the arrogant one who always got the highest weekly ratings? Also he was rather sexy in a subdued way and finally fell for the little actress. Also I think his name is Eom Gil and there is GIL on your T.shirt.

Now that is my small 'interesting added fact ' to this thread..

Yeah, I'm glad I added that beautiful picture as my computer desktop, too! It looks great. What a wonderful view of the lake and the landscape of the entire garden. It must be most beautiful in the spring when the entire garden is in full bloom.

Ahh, last year I actually didn't have a chance to make it to the Little Tokyo Obon or Nisei Week. I did go to the Gardena Obon, though. I always love Obon Season -- the mood at all the festivals are always so festive, especially with the delicious food (yum, I'm still craving that chicken teriyaki at the Gardena Obon) and the Bon Odori dancing. A ton of fun! emoticon

Peggy-san, what a coincidence! Is this the drama you're talking about?

http://wiki.d-addicts.com/The_World_That_They_Live_In

Looks like it is known by two different titles -- Worlds Within and The World That They Live In.

Greg san,

Yes that is the film. I think the name shown is Eom Ki Joon but on the talk show it sounded like Eom Gil...maybe I heard it that way.

He is a marvellous actor and very famous on the musical stage in Korea.

I hope he makes another drama in the near future.

Peg.

Forgot to say that this is a very interesting drama about the making of dramas from the other side of the camera. ..all the difficulties and defeats and victories for the competing PDs. Nice cast with very good older actors walking off with their scenes.

Re: J-Dramas Fan Get-Togethers

Peggy-san, thanks so much for the info about the Worlds Within drama! Wow, I've never seen a drama before that looks at the production and filming of an actual drama behind the scenes. It ought to be really interesting to check out -- especially since I'd imagine so much work goes into producing a drama and making sure it is of good quality, too. Especially the taiga dramas. Not only do they need to take care of casting, writing, and directing -- but also all those costumes and sets. Really interesting stuff.
