Re: J-Drama: どんど晴れ (Sunny Dondo)
Nchristi, thanks for the info on the English title! I edited the first post and added the Sunny Dondo title.
Aah, I know what you mean -- where's a good zashiki warashi when you need one! LOL. Something similar happened to me. I'm on Spring Break this week, so my family and I went to Las Vegas for a few days, so I thought I'd bring my laptop with me hoping that I could find Sunny Dondo somewhere online with E-subtitles. Sadly, it looks like there are no Sunny Dondo episodes are available online, LOL! Good thing I set my VCR up at home (just in case!) to record the episodes of Sunny Dondo from Tuesday through Friday (including Partners and 3 Minute Cooking).
I just hope my VCR doesn't malfunction again, LOL!! I'll post a recap of yesterday's Ep. 5 of Sunny Dondo this weekend as soon as I get home and watch the episode.
I'm still wondering what Masaki is up to... it'll be fun to watch Eps 5, 6, 7, and 8 back to back!

Re: J-Drama: どんど晴れ (Sunny Dondo)
Well, not what I thought was going to happen! Today, Masaki shows up unexpectedly at Natsumi's home and tells her family he has resigned from his job. Mom can't understand how he could resign when he is about to be married. Dad wants to hear first the reason why he resigned, since he did the same himself to start up the bakery. Masaki tells them he has decided to go back home and take over the inn. Then he says he is calling off the wedding. Dad almost punches him out, but is restrained. Dad is furious and says he will never allow his daughter to marry such a man and proceeds to throw him out!
Since Natsumi doesn't have a clue what's going on with Masaki, she goes running after him, demanding to know what's up. He tells her that since he is taking over the inn, his wife must become the Proprietress, so it can't be Natsumi. The episode ends with Natsumi telling him that she has changed her mind since visiting his family at the inn. She wants to be a sakura tree as his mother was, to stand by and support him forever. He doesn't accept it and walks away...

Re: J-Drama: どんど晴れ (Sunny Dondo)
Ahh, the tape I was using managed to record Sunny Dondo on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, but it ran out of space and didn't record Friday's episode. Ugh! Just when things were getting really interesting, too. Did anything interesting happen during Friday's episode? Thanks!
Here's a recap of what happened during Tuesday's episode:
Natsumi is back home in Yokohama and mails Masaki's grandma, Head Proprietress, a letter wishing her a speedy recovery. She also attaches a box of cookies she baked herself. She mentions that since eating liver is good for anemia, she used liver paste in the cookie batter. Grandma is surprised, but after she takes a bite of the cookie and is pleasantly surprised by the taste!
We learn that Natsumi's father is an expert pastry chef. He's won a worldwide pastry competition, and takes a lot of pride in his work at the bakery. Natsumi wants to one day work at the bakery like her father and create a cake of her own.
Meanwhile, at the inn, Masaki's uncle, his wife the Proprietress, and their son are discussing how to get Grandma to retire. The son tells his father (the uncle) to be the one to tell Grandma to retire already, since he is her son, but the uncle doesn't want to. Finally, the Proprietress says tha she has no choice but to do it herself. They will tell Grandma to retire and let her son take over the inn.
Natsumi visits Masaki's work (the hotel) to deliver some cakes they had ordered. She is a bit concerned since Masaki hasn't called or contacted her since his return to Tokyo. She sees Masaki, and he coldly tells her that he wants to visit her home and speak to her and her parents about something important that evening. When Natsumi asks him what's wrong, he says he will talk to her about it later.
I was upset with Masaki's behavior during Thursday's episode. Especially after he slammed the door of his apartment in Natsumi's face and told her she is a nuisance. What a jerk! I can't believe he's treating Natsumi like this after he called off their wedding. The least he could do is explain his feelings to Natsumi. Right now, all he's done is told her he will take over the inn and that she isn't fit to be the Head Proprietress. She deserves an explanation after the manner in which he called off their wedding.

Re: J-Drama: どんど晴れ (Sunny Dondo)
Here's what happened on Friday...
The chubby cook at the pastry shop is trying to find out what's going on with Natsumi. He asks her little brother, who doesn't say much. Later, Kumiko (Natsumi's friend) comes by to see how Natsumi is doing. She's fine and goes in the back to get something for Kumiko. While she's gone, the chubby cook comes out and asks Kumiko if it's true Natsumi's marriage has been called off. Kumiko says 'yes'. The cook acts sad but with his back to her, he smiles to himself and does a secret 'fist pump'. Guess he either got the hots for Natsumi, or wants to marry the owner's daughter... or both!
Dad meets with Masaki's boss, delivering him a cake. It seems they are close friends from way back. Dad asks him if Masaki is serious. The boss says 'yes,' he has accepted M's resignation. Dad then goes to the hotel (?) where Masaki works. They talk together privately and are amicable. Dad wants to know why Masaki is doing this. class ul M: I have my reasons. I don't have anything to say to you. I'm calling off the wedding. I'm really sorry. (bows deeply)
D: All right. But in exchange, I don't want you to see Natsumi ever again... Is that what you want?
M: Yes. I won't see her again.Back at the bakery, Dad calls Natsumi aside. He tells her he met with Masaki. "He has no interest in marrying you and he won't see you again. Your marriage to Masaki has been called off. Do you understand?"
Natsumi hits the ceiling, telling Dad it's none of his business. "I want to be with Masaki! If he's going to Moriaka, I want to go with him and become the inn's Proprietress. I'm serious."
Dad is upset about Natsumi casting aside her pastry chef goals so easily. He is offended and accuses her of being half-hearted. He didn't train her because she was his daughter but because she loved it and was talented at it... or so he thought.
Both are upset. Dad is working late by himself down in the bakery, while Natsumi is alone in her room. It is raining outside. Only Mom and the son are eating dinner, so Mom brings a tray to Natsumi's room. N. asks Mom why she married dad? Mom replies that Dad always knew he was inept, that's why he puts so much effort into his cakes. He can't express himself with words, but he loves and care deeply for his family. "Even though we were faced with hardships, I knew I would find happiness with him," Mom tells Natsumi. "Just like you, I want to be together with Masaki." As Natsumi tells her mom how lonely Masaki is, she flashes back to the sakura tree in the field and how she made Masaki smile. "You love him that much?" Mom asks. "I hurt Dad. I don't know what to do any more." Mom tells her it is her life... she must decide and make sure she has no regrets.
Meanwhile in the dark Masaki is working in the rain, scrubbing the outside patio area at his work. The Narrator: Masaki had no idea how Natsumi felt as he worked in the rain trying to forget about her....

Re: J-Drama: どんど晴れ (Sunny Dondo)
I don't know if you saw this part or not but when Natsumi was chasing after Masaki and he wasn't interested in what she had to say, a glowing sakura petal floated down in the darkness and landed in Natsumi's hand. Another omen of what her destiny will be, no doubt!
Also, I forgot to mention that when Natsumi and her mom were talking together, it ended up with Mom saying that she would support her daughter's decision, whichever way she chose.
On Masaki, yeah, I'm not sure what's up with him. If Natsumi is eager to go with him and be the Proprietress, what's his problem with accepting her? It almost seems as though there's more going on here than we know. Maybe not, though. Perhaps he just thinks it is an overwhelmingly unpleasant life at Morioka and doesn't want to subject her to it. Maybe his silence is because he doesn't want to have to argue his position and way of thinking. If he just clams up, it will all go away quicker than if he keeps discussing it with Dad or Natsumi. Just seems a little fishy, though...

Re: J-Drama: どんど晴れ (Sunny Dondo)
Oh yeah, that was a pretty interesting scene when the mysterious sakura petal landed right in Natsumi's hand. No wonder she's so insistent upon going to Morioka with Masaki! She might think of that sakura tree as a symbol of her destiny to spend her life with Masaki in Morioka... even though he's been treating her so badly. I hope things will eventually fall into place as we keep watching this morning drama.
I'm glad Mom has decided to support Natsumi no matter what she decides to do. Her mom must realize how painful everything is for her daughter, so it's good that she's decided to stand by Natsumi, even if she wants to move to Morioka with Masaki. I really like her character.
I agree, something odd is going on with Masaki. Perhaps he knows something about the inn in Morioka that we don't, and that might be why he wants to break all ties with Natsumi. Before, when he wasn't planning on taking over the inn, he was fine with introducing Natsumi to his family, telling him about his childhood, etc. But now that he has decided to take over the inn, he is very hesitant to talk to Natsumi (or her family) about the entire situation. I hope we find out soon what's going on with Masaki...
