Re: J-Drama: 相棒2 (Partners 2)
Yuri Masako told me while ago on MSN Japan messenger chat claimed "Yasuharu Hasebe, was directing Aibou in past, who passed way on June 14."
I search for Yasuharu Hasebe on google and found it. It's confirmed! No way! class blockquote

2 (Partners 2)
Episode 1 (Part 1) was very good. This series seems to be getting better as it goes along, unlike so many other TV programs.
I was very surprised to see the story continuity—Kameyama is actually working at the DMV! Administering tests, no less. And, sure enough, his supervisor is more than happy to grant his request for a week's vacation—encouraging him to take even longer! LOL! Seeing him in that DMV uniform makes me appreciate just how much 'clothes make the man.' A much better sight to see him in his old jacket/cargo pants style.
Sad to see that Aunt Alice has died. Enjoyed the artful direction of the London scenes: Alice's grave, the statue of Sherlock Holmes, the red double deck bus. (Sadly, those buses were retired in 2005. Since then, the outcry was so great that a move has been afoot to bring them back. This time Aston Martin is working on a 'greener,' safer version, one powered by solar panels—target date is 2011. Budget Travel blog)
For our current murder mystery, we have a very nutty ex-prosecutor type who is on Death Row for a series of murders. Before he checks out, he is determined to have a woman convicted of a murder—a murder for which there is no proof. He is convinced, though, that she is guilty because he can "smell it."
Once again, the hour was over way too quickly! Such an excellent program.

Re: J-Drama: 相棒2 (Partners 2)
Episode 1 (Part 1)
I'm really happy to see Partners back, too! I think this second season aired about one year after the first season ended, but I'm glad to see that most if not all the original characters are back. Kameyama's still living with his reporter girlfriend, and now that Ukyo is back from London, he's visiting his ex-wife/girlfriend's bar again. And we even got to see that defense attorney again! She's quite the legal eagle, isn't she!? Giving Kameyama the advice to indict his jailed prosecutor friend for robbery so that they have a chance to communicate privately with him.
I think we might were introduced to the odd prosecutor friend in Partners 1. We learned that he was Kameyama's old friend but was jailed for several counts of murder. When we saw him before, he was awaiting a formal trial, but I guess now he has been tried and is awaiting execution on Death Row. I wonder why he is so emotionally involved in getting to the bottom of this case. I can see that he would want to see the murderer caught before he is executed, but there must be another reason behind it -- it must be pretty serious since he knocked two cops out right after surgery just to see Kameyama and beg him to let Ukyo know about this case.
The case itself is bizarre, indeed. In 1998 (5 years before this episode took place in 2003) a pharmacy school professor was poisoned. The murderer was never found, since somebody placed the poisonous pills inside the professor's vitamins. The jailed prosecutor just has a hunch that it is the young lady we were introduced to, who is now a graduate student. She now lives in a mansion! Speaking of the suspect, what pictures was she looking at? We saw her looking at photos taken with an older man. Was it the murdered university professor?
I loved all the scenes of the city of London. I'm glad to hear those signature red buses are scheduled to return in 2011! But I was also really sad to see that Aunt Alice passed away. I was hoping that we would get to see her again this season. At least we saw in Partners 1 that she was able to enjoy her last trip to Japan. She was a really fun character.
LOL, I was cracking up seeing Ukyo going off on the suspect, telling her he is a 'mystery buff' and raving on about his theories about who the murderer was. She was getting more and more uncomfortable upon hearing Ukyo's thoughts on the case! And then of course seeing Kameyama ask for a week off at the DMV. Isn't it funny that Ukyo is also taking time off from his job as a police instructor so they can work on this case? Those two need to work together again. class blockquote nchristi wrote:

Nchristi, I got a kick out of that smiley you posted!
Great episode. I think this season is going to be even better the first! Looking forward to seeing Part 2 next Thursday.

Then, too, remember when he was sentenced to death in the courtroom? He looked back at her, she cracked a small smile then silently and slowly mouthed the word: Sa...yo...na...ra. That would infuriate anybody, wouldn't it?!
Yeah, it was a little creepy seeing her sitting in the back of the courtroom, bidding farewell to the prosecutor in that chilling manner as he was being taken away. A little creepy, actually, LOL! Come to think of it, I found it a little strange how she was sitting in the coutroom during his trial. Maybe there's more to the relationship between the prosecutor and the pharmacy student than we know of. Was she perhaps involved in the murders committed by the prosecutor? Or was she just at the trial to bid farewell to the man that suspected her as the culprit behind the professor's murder case. Interesting story!

Re: J-Drama: 相棒2 (Partners 2)
Episode 1 (Part 2)
Woah, the second season is better already! Usually, we see the case resolved by the end of the episode. This time, we know who the culprit is, but there's still a lot of mystery behind the reasons behind the crime. Now with Ukyo and Kameyama being officially reprimanded and suspended from the force until further notice, the case seems nowhere near being 'solved'.
So what do we know? Miss Kogure, the student and the suspected murderer, is believed to have killed the three men -- the pharmacy professor back in 1998, the man whose body was found after 3 weeks, and this most recent case with the company executive who suddenly collapsed and rolled down the stairs while meeting with Ukyo and Kameyama. The common denominator between all these murders is that atropine was found during the autopsies (except with the man whose body was discovered after 3 weeks, but then again there were no toxic substances tests conducted on his body). Also, all three men seemed to have been acquainted with Miss Kogure.
When Ukyo and Kameyama confronted Kogure, she had no problem confessing to the crime. After excusing herself to 'change her clothes', Kogure takes hemlock poison and collapses, but she survives. I found it very interesting how it was determined that Kogure didn't intend to kill herself -- she took hemlock knowing that it was a poison that took as long as one hour to kill. Ukyo knew that as a pharmacy student, Kogure would be well aware of this, meaning that she didn't intend to die.
Now we know why! She created a fake story, claiming that Ukyo and Kameyama forced her to confess for a crime that she did not commit, and that they made everything up about her 'confessing voluntarily'. Hence, Ukyo and Kameyama received a strict reprimand and were suspended from the force. I guess under the vague 'Special Missions' title, Ukyo and Kameyama had a lot of freedom in terms of solving the cases. Technically, they weren't supposed to, but it seems like their job description was so vague that nobody had a big problem with them solving a few cases. Now, I think the higher-ups in the police force (minus Onoda) probably are having a hard time seeing a police academy instructor and an officer at the DMV solving murder cases, hence their harsher treatment.
What was up with Kogure's creepy smile at the end, as she was lying down in the hospital bed? I guess it was a smile of success -- she got the two cops in trouble and survived her 'suicide attempt'.
I had to crack up when Kogure served tea to Ukyo and Kameyama. They both looked at the liquid in the cups, and then gave each other a look. Ukyo takes a small sip, followed by Kameyama. Their facial expressions were hilarious!
I wonder what Kogure's motive is. There has to be a reason behind those three murders. And I wonder if her story is true about her father being a botanist and being out of the country for so many months. Something seems very fishy!

…
I have a funny suspicion that the reason for killing those 3 guy because it had to do with her father. Usually every mystery drama have suspects (their children) who killing for revenge for their family.
that was a creepy and demononic smile. that same smile from last episode to that evil prosecutor last week.
