Re: What Kind of American English Do You Speak?

An aside, but whenever I take this quiz, I always get puzzled by one of the questions. It says:

Do you use the word cruller?

I always say "No" because I've never heard it before, but this time I finally thought I would look this word up and see what it means. I found this Wikipedia article on Crullers: class blockquote A traditional cruller (or twister) is a twisted, oblong, fried pastry made of dough somewhat like that of a cake doughnut, often topped with plain powdered sugar; powdered sugar mixed with cinnamon; or icing... Crullers are most commonly found in Canada, New England and the Mid-Atlantic and North Central states of the USA, but it is also common in California.Hmm, even though they're also common here in California, maybe they're more commonly referred to here as donuts?

I use the word cruller occasionally. When I'm referring to that type of donut. I don't know I eat a lot of donuts and I'm familiar with a lot of different types of them.

The Yum Yum Donut shop in my neighborhood has crullers. Here are a couple images. The most common shape I've seen is the circular one and I've seen them in every donut shop I've ever frequented.

Oh yeah, I've seen that circular shaped cruller in a lot of donut shops and bakeries, too. They seem pretty common. Now I know they are called crullers! I guess I always used to refer to them as 'donuts' before, LOL!
