I call Zoey 'Grindle' sometimes... I don't know why.
She doesn't seem to mind.. she just ignores me.

Re: My cat Awen is death
I think that's one of the best thing about pets: they don't get angry at you, or judge you, or expect anything from you like humans do. They've got their own individual personalities but none of them care what you look like, or what you've done in the past, or whether you're living up to everyone's expectations of you. They just love you as you are, and don't want anything more than you - you just need to love them, give them a bit of attention, and provide the basics for them.
It'll take a while for you to get used to having Iona, and Arwen not being around any more, but you'll get there eventually. When we first got Jake and Meg, it felt really strange, and they just didn't seem like 'our' dogs at first. It just wasn't the same as having Sam, and I didn't think that would ever change. It's still not the same as having Sam, but I couldn't imagine not having them now... Once I got to know them both and got used to having them around, I became just as attached to them as I had been to Sam. They're different - both from Sam and from each other, and that's what makes them so special. No pet can ever be replaced - no other cat will replace Arwen, and no other cat will ever replace Iona.
I think it can be extra hard to get used to if you only had a single pet before - if you've got more than one you already know that they're all different and have appreciated their differences in character while loving them all equally, and I think that makes it easier to adjust to having a new friend who's different again, and it's easier to become attached to them.
Having said that, if you've only got one pet, it might take a bit longer to get used to, but then you'll eventually find yourself even more attached to them than you could imagine. It'll take time, but it'll be worth it - and after a few months you won't be able to imagine not having Iona around!
