Re: Onward, ever striving etc...
*steals with the intention of painting*
I love the first photo. I'd love to visit the castle ~ it'd be both great and strange to walk about the castle that was Cackle's Academy.

Re: Onward, ever striving etc...
It's within bike riding distance of Cardiff ..
Dozer (remember her?) has visited Castell Coch before by bike.
If you do visit, keep in mind there's no courtyard or great hall.
The courtyard - the setting for so many of the best scenes in the show - was actually part of an old farm outside of London..
(My memory is getting vague on facts like these.. it's been nearly a decade) and the great hall, the girl's bedrooms etc, were sets at Twickenham Studios.. http://www.twickenhamstudios.com/ .. where many scenes from Beatles films, A Hard Days Night, Help! and Let It Be were also filmed..
Only shots of the turrets and towers of Castell Coch were used for WW..
I don't think any actual scenes were ever filmed there. They would just use the stock footage shot from the air and shots of the towers as needed for an ep.
I wonder if Holly Rivers has ever made the trip to the Castle?
hmmm..

Re: Onward, ever striving etc...
I loved the view of Castle Campbell when we rode there with the Exmoor Ponies. You could see the castle sort of sticking out of the trees as you came down the hill, and it made you half expect to see little witches flying around on broomsticks. I've seen a few castles, although Castle Campbell's the only one I've ever been inside (and that was just a quick trip to the ladies' via the tearoom, while a couple of other trekkers kept an eye on the ponies!)
It's a pity they couldn't have gotten some of the old sets for the Worst Witch and set up a sort of WW museum in Castle Coch... complete with art gallery containing Cackle's castle's paintings, and all the Art Wars stuff.
I got thinking about that after hearing about a tourist attraction that were advertising for a witch:
An estate agent from Shepton Mallet has won a lucrative job as a witch at the Wookey Hole tourist site in Somerset.
Carole Bohanan beat 300 fellow applicants for the £50,000 a year post. She said her "witchy charisma" had helped her secure the role.
She will be required to teach magic and witchcraft in the site's caves. The role also requires her to be able to cackle and not be allergic to cats.
The job came up after the previous witch retired from the role.
The annual salary of £50,000 is pro rata, and based on work done as required, mostly in the summer holidays, but also at Halloween and at Christmas.
Ms Bohanan, whose witch name is Carla Calamity, said her former career as an estate agent would stand her in good stead for the job.
"I think it's a natural progression. You need to perform a little bit of magic to sell houses in the current market," she said.

Re: Onward, ever striving etc...
now there's a job advert you don't see often! *cackles classically*
dream job indeed.
HB sleep on a board? I beg to differ - we saw her sleeping in a comfy bed propped up with ample soft fluffy pillows in the episode where she took an unexpected swim in the river!
Tanzy, I expect we will see those photos you take when you ride your lovely exmoor ponies to the castle, please!

Re: Onward, ever striving etc...
I didn't realise that the courtyard was separate from the castle. Wow, they made that look seamless... especially when Millie walks through the forest and enters 'Walker's Gate' back in series one.
*Impressed spinks*
I remember reading in the news about the job advert for a witch. There's also been one recently for someone who can play a zombie - at the London Dungeons, I think. Cool.

Re: Onward, ever striving etc...
Patricia ~ here's the only photo I currently have on the computer from trekking to Castle Campbell:
There are a couple of small pictures here: clicky
I think that must have been one of my favourite treks at Glendevon!

Re: Onward, ever striving etc...
It certainly would have done.
It looks like a fairy-tale castle in the first photo... Probably helped by the pink blossoms seeming to colour-coordinate with the pinkish-red tinge the roof has.
I absolutely love castles and big old mansions and the like... When I was younger I always thought it would have been great fun to have lived in such a building ~ particularly for playing hide and seek in the dark (which I have actually done in a couple of churches, which was great fun!)
