New Worst Witch Season 2
Thanks to Claudia I was able to see the second season.
And I must say I was pleasantly surprised.
The second season is better than the first.
The writing, acting and production values in general are better overall.
The eps move along at a better pace and there's less "blah" time than the first season.
I think it's partly due to the writers focusing less on making Hettie Hubble the be all and end all of every episode.
The supporting cast seemed much more involved in the storylines this time out. As opposed to being mere plot devices set in scenes to move a story along.
The most obvious change to me was in the Cynthia Horrocks character (played by Daisy Hughes).
She's gone from being nearly invisible last season, to being a fairly central character in most of the new eps.
In fact it seemed to me she got more screen time in some episodes than the Belladonna Bindweed character did, or even some of Hettie's mates.
She reminded me more of what Drusilla Paddock was like near the end of series 3 of the original WW.
When she was turning on Ethel and getting more involved with things.
One change is that Miss Nightingale appears to be gone and a rather idiotic character called Miss Widget has taken her place.
Miss Cackle is much the same, only looks even thinner than in the first series ..
The faux HB hasn't as much to do with things as she did last year.
Maybe they're trying to get away from the comparisons to Kate Duchene.
But she seems to be even less HB'ish than in the first season.
Hettie's mates are pretty much the same with the exception of Mona Hallow seeming to have less screen time and Cressie Winterchild seeming to get more..
Anyway.. It still can't hold a candle to the original series.. but it is better than it was the first season.

Unfortunately I dident get to see the rest of season two as CITV just suddenly stoped showing and dosent run on normle tv anymore.
and as for getting the DVDs there's no way were getting those they hsavent even bothered to release the worst witch yet so what are the chances of getting the new worst witch
Now where as agrre that season 1 is poor at the start. it dose get better later. season 2 is as it shold be better then the first as season two of the worst witch is better then the first.

Yes, they are out on DVD. If you buy them you get Season 1 and 2. I agree with Len, the second is much better than the first one. Still it isn't as good as the old series.

I watched the first half (roughly) of season one, but it didn't really hold my interest. I haven't seen any of season 2. I just couldn't watch any of it without being really annoyed about the imposter 'HB'... It was just soooooooo wrong!!!
And I don't have freeview anyway... (can't say I'd have watched it if I did, mind).

CiTV is a ghost of what it was back in the late 90's when the original WW was being broadcast isn't it?
First it was gutted, then killed off completely, then brought back as digital only or something?
That's sad.. back in it's heyday it was a pretty marvelous thing.
We definitely had nothing like it in Canader ..
Well YTV was the closest thing I suppose.
But it's been gutted too.. It's just pathetic now.
Our version of the BBC (CBC) was doing some interesting things in the late 90's , early 2000's as well.
But government cuts have left it a wasteland for unique programming.

my dvds were waiting for me when I returned to Frankfurt...
I watched the first season of New Worst Witch, but didn't get round to watch the second before I left again...
If I had never seen the original version, I might have liked the new one...
it wasn't bad - but it's just on one hand such a attempt to take over all elements of the old series on the surface while at the same time destroying all the subtext that it's quite hard to watch sometimes.

Maybe Cackle's burnd down one time and they had to build it again. So the first millennium anniversaries was for the old one and the second for the new..... :dingo1:
