Coins first then Bills and receipt...
When giving change in a supermarket, shop or anywhere else..
Why can't most cashiers these days give the coins with one hand and the bills with the other?
Not bills first then coins dropped onto the bills, or worse still, both at the same time .
What invariably happens? Coins drop.. or you end up cramming coins, bills and receipt in your pocket so as not to slow down the queue.
It seems to be the younger cashiers who are guilty of this most often.
Older cashiers do it the proper way.
Must be a lack of training. I blame the management ..
It's a small rant , but it bugs me for some reason.
But having said that, I think being a cashier in a retail environment these days has to be one of the most thankless, horrible jobs there is.
People take out their frustrations for anything bad that's happened in the store out on these poor girls.. (They're females here 99% of the time)
Most are part-timers here and most are on minimum wage.
I was in Shoppers Drug Mart last week and there was a long queue and only the one cashier.
There was a problem with a price not registering properly with one customer, and no one came when the girl called the manager for help.
Meanwhile the queue is getting longer and people are beginning to mutter and shuffling in place.
The girl then called for a backup cashier to open another till, but no one came.
The manager finally came and fixed whatever was wrong with the price thing and then he called for a backup cashier and left!
(Why didn't he open a till for god's sake!)
On top of this the girl had to do all the lottery stuff as well. Which adds more time getting each customer through.
The guy in front of me started berating the girl when he got was paying..
He wasn't abusive, but he was ignorant and loud.
The girl apologized and he kept ranting away at her.
At this point I stepped in and told him it wasn't her fault. And that if he wanted to complain to go find that manager who saw the massive queue and just walked away..
He looked a bit ashamed and said he didn't have time and quickly left.
The poor girl quietly thanked me when I paid..
There was still no second till opened as I was leaving.

Re: Coins first then Bills and receipt...
It's the exact same over here...
Sometimes people just seem to suffer a complete lack of common sense.

Re: Coins first then Bills and receipt...
A complete breakdown in basic civility and common courtesy is the cause of a great many of society's ills these days imho..
I place the blame squarely on the parents.
But also on the media and decades of gutless, hypocritical politicians to a certain extent for allowing the media to get into the state it now is..
Without civility society is doomed.

Re: Coins first then Bills and receipt...
... and yet despite this complete lack of civility and common courtesy, the human race is sooooooo good at demanding other people treat them with perfect respect...
'Human rights' seems to have taken on a whole new meaning of late... People are so good at knowing what they are entitled to, and even better at complaining when they don't get it. But do they ever actually consider other people's rights? People seem to be becoming more and more self-centred nowadays - it's quite sad, really...

Self -Absorbed, Self-Centered..
Sense of entitlement as opposed to something being earned..
Respect demanded rather than earned.
Greed as a virtue.
The worship of self = complete and utter selfishness.
The cult of personality .. shallow & empty.

Re: Coins first then Bills and receipt...
IMHO: You should be able to expect and get "what you payed for" and when you don't, letting management know is the only to get compensated for inadequate product and /or service. There is. however, no need to be abusive or insulting about it. One can state the facts reasonably and if not satisfied with the result, take one's business elsewhere. Not complaining about a poor product simply allows the standard of service to deteriorate, as many businesses these days want to see how much they can get away with. Unless it was a truely nasty situation, I will state my case to the management but decline to single out the clerk(if a clerk was involved) in order to prevent the clerk from punishment by the management.

There's a right way to give change?
I can't say I've ever thought about it.

Re: Coins first then Bills and receipt...
I love that description of the 'wrong way' :lolfast1:
If I didn't know any better, I'd say that actually seems to be the way that people are taught to give change...
