Re: Alternative Energy for the Japanese Coutry Home
Hey Ken,
They are cool aren't they, this guy has talent.
I believe they are about 40万円 installed, that's what my friend paid. I can check exact prices if you want it's no trouble, it's on the way to work.

20yen/kWh ? WOW! I just checked my September bill: 5,757yen / 548kWh = 10.5yen/1kWh
(bill will probably double next month, Nov, when I turn on the heaters)
Guess there is a big difference between the price and location. All you guys down South pay that much?

Re: Alternative Energy for the Japanese Coutry Home
Here's a guy using the cheap Chinese 200watt AC hydro turbine, it can be imported direct to port only for $500.

Also found this solid looking PMA (permanent magnet alternator)
It looks like an AC unit as well, wow.
It's $690 airfreight to your door.

Re: Alternative Energy for the Japanese Coutry Home
A good link about an affordable off-grid system,to be made here in Japan. The site, OFF-Grid, has a lot of goodies too.

Re: Alternative Energy for the Japanese Coutry Home
Found a really interesting micro hydro unit from New Zealand. Price includes shipping, this is very reasonable considering the exchange rate.

Re: Alternative Energy for the Japanese Coutry Home
Thanks Gecko,
Did you check out their other stuff? The rewired Chinese wind turbine looks really good too! Lucky for you they ship to Oz. Unfortunately the hydro unit is all they will ship to Japan, or so they say.
I'm going home for a visit in a month. If I can get an Air-X 400 wind turbine cheaper than the NZ hydro unit I may bring one back. If not I'm hoping to order the NZ hydro in autumn or spring.
I really want to get my house lighting off grid someday.
