Milan,
I am pretty sure that it was not a recording session, just quality musicians making music in a club for fun.

I found this in my collection:

- A three hour live jam session at Steve Paul's Scene Club in New York City
(apparently 1968) included Hendrix, Jon Lord (of Deep Purple), Buddy Miles,
Steve Stills (on bass) and Dave Mason. This went over so well that the
'supergroup' played two more nights. (from a Winwood mailing list).

But they also only guess the date and strangely refer to the Lord interview in Modern Keyboard 89 where he says that it was in 1970...

I have had e-mail correspondence with Jon over this.

I tried to work out a date using Hendrix's Visual Documentary and the Charlesworth book.

I concluded that it must have been during Mark 1, but Jon was sure it was during Mark 2.

I bet Nigel does know the answer. Are you going to tell us now, or shall we wait for the book?

It'll be in the book, 1969.

Nigel

I'd ask Nogel for feedback/help, but I somehow have the feeling I might get the same answer we got regarding the "Christopher Cross played in/with Deep Purple" situation, i.e "It'll be in the book" - Nigel Young, 2005. ( / )

Always nice to see a prediction come true! emoticon Now, if I can just do that with some Lottery numbers, then I'd have some thing there! emoticon

Hi friends!

I mailed an US-friend and "Hendrix Pope" to get some informations about this interesting topic. Here's his uncut answer:

yes i know of the jam you stated. it closely is dated sometime after the 16th of Dec, 1968.
there was the same line up three nights in a row. knowing jimis love for taping i am sure one night was or all was taped. but sadly theres people who hold these tapes for what ever reason. sometimes they just get lost until someone says "what on this"..

i think off the top of my head there is video of a jimi with buddy and friends in 69. i don't have it.

cheers

This goes with my intensions because spring 1970 is impossible because Jimi was touring around Europe .......

Regards from Vienna

Well, anyway, sounds promising emoticon
Let's hope any tapes as such will surface sometime in future.

Not really responding to this question, but I would like to contact Jon regarding his Artwood days. I have a number of live recordings, one of which I made in Llandudno, which is where I first met the Art Woods. In early 1965 I moved to London and saw the Artwoods at almost all of their 100 Club dates. Not sure if Jon would still have some of the BBC radio or tv material etc, but would love to make contact again after so many years. If this can be relayed to Jon for his response, or provide me with Jon's e-mail address so that I may contact him directly, it would be appreciated. Tony.

I hope you get through to him, email with him can be touch and go, to say the least, this forum is one way of going about it, I can tell you that if he reads this, and he's up to it, you just might hear from him...

Speaking of 'You Really Got Me' I hope no one thinks Lord and Page did their parts together, it was a session job, and wasn't an entire group recording, it was chopped, I'd still like to know, if they bumped into one another over it, as session players often crossed paths that way.

Another Page session was The Who's 'Can't Explain.'
