Slaves and Masters.
OK, I gotta admit I haven't listened to this CD probably since I bought it.
Have listened to it now for about 3 hrs straight. I think the CD kicks some arse. I love JLT singing lead vocals for Purple.
I was wondering what real DP fanatics thought of the CD.
Since I'm a newbie and to be honest DP is not my #1 band (Please don't behead me) BUT I've always loved and respected the ENTIRE BAND for their contributios to Rock..PERIOD!
I've come to find this delightful site.
Peace,
MP.

Re: Slaves and Masters.
welcome aboard '75, but I hate this album. JLT should be in jail for mk2 classics murder attempt.
dont get angry man. the first time that I write here it was about a S&M X Stormbringer discussion. so it's kind nostalgic to me talk about S&M
keep writing here man!

Well, I rank it 17th - at best, 16th - out of the 17 Deep Purple studio albums. Of course, that's only a valid answer if I'm to be considered a "DP fanatic". Ah, I guess I qualify as a "fan", anyway...and "fan" is a derivative of "fanatic".
And may peace be upon you too, MP.

Re: Slaves and Masters.
Erich ?
What is it you dislike about this Album? JLT more then a respectable singer and the tunes ... kick ass!
I must be a ????? Cause I loved Stormbringer TOO. LOL
Remember one thing.. JLT was a newbie so his input may not be what you think it is. The tunes were probably written already, all he had to do is put some lyrics to it.
Peace,
MP

Re: Slaves and Masters.
MrEd , (Loved the TV show)
Never said it was number 1. Probably somewhere closer to 10 or so. Just thought for an 80's album it was very well done.
Erich ,
You never did say exactly what it is you dislike? Not bustin chops just trying to get an insiders view. I could be missing something.
Peace,
MP.

Re: Slaves and Masters.
basically the performances by RB,JL,RG,IP are very average. which disapoint me a lot. the songs didnt hook me as the others. i couldnt find anything good there. no respectful solos. and JLT is very bad, since Rainbow days. He cant rock , cos he is a pop singer to me. to this record is my biggest disapointment in RnR history.

Re: Slaves and Masters.
I recently bought this album, and it isnt as bad as I once thought, but Still no where near my favorites and it doesnt sound like Deep Purple.
Blackmore is on fire on this CD though, I think he really is great here. The rest of the band is just average though.
King Of Dreams, Love Conquers All, Fortuneteller, Fire In The Basement and Truth Hurts are all fairly enjoyable songs, just not up to the standards of Deep Purple.

I realize that, MP...I just wanted to answer your question as far as my personal rating for it.
Can't argue with that assessment about it it's status as an "80s album" that you gave it.

Re: Slaves and Masters.
To tell you the truth, I think there are some very good songs on S&M, my favorite being Truth Hurts. Some great atmosphere.
And as Stormbringer, the same applies. My favorite from that one is Holy Man.
