How can we improve the forums?

With the closure of the Inn Rock, the opening of Union Jack's classic rock forum, and the hint of animosity between several posters, all does not seem entirely happy around here at the moment!

So this is your chance to give feedback into how the forum can improve, and how we, as admins and mods, can improve the forum for you guys.

No silly conversations or one word answers please!

I just want a few suggestions. Nobody's perfect, and if this forum can be improved, of if us admins can improve things around here, then I'd like to hear how you think it can!

All sensible suggestions welcome! emoticon

I thought I would post this here rather than the feedback session, just to allow more people to offer there general opinions about how things are going around here.

Are you guys happy with the forum? Think things could be better?

Let us know your thoughts!

Cheers,
Rahul

Theory is when you know everything and nothing works;
Practice is when everything works and nobody knows why.

Here we combine Theory with Practice: Nothing works and nobody knows why.

Dunno. A good forum is one with good discussions, right?

A thing I personally enjoy reading are stories and facts from the bands history, things that go beyond the common spread knowledge. There are people around here who witnessed the band in it's legendary prime time, and their memories may be interesting for 2nd and 3rd generation fans (those who discovered DP during mk2 reunion era and mk Morse era).

And we're never done discussing Blackmore vs Morse, are we? emoticon

I'm not sure you can improve much on what is already an outstanding forum.

I have never once had complaints about this forum that were SERIOUS...other than my usual mamby-pamby, ("why can't the forum clock be converted to my timezone...blah, blah, blah!" ) kind of feedback.

In the end, it's not about the nit picking, it's about the quality of the overall product, and how user friendly it is, and how we're all able to express ourselves upon it.

It has served every one of my desires for the ideal forum, and then some...and I love it.

Now that being said, my frequency on it waxes and wanes, and right now I'm going through a phase where I'm not here that often. (Starting a new job with a 35 mile commute instead of a 7 mile commute does that to people). I reckon it's the same for others. Maybe the closing of the INN ROCK, wasn't such a smart idea. Maybe the general banter back and forth is getting old to some, and people with real background and substance about the band need to step forward.

It's interesting that you said the riffs between forum members are polarizing and dividing the forum. I was unaware that this was happening.

I have no big complaints thus far; keep it going. You guys work hard and your efforts show and are appreciated. emoticon emoticon emoticon

What I'm wondering is whether the old HS forums had more active users? It seems like we have quite a small quantity of regular posters here.

Exactly! B3 said it all, and I second it.
