If they were serious about a live album i am sure they could have found better performances from Blackmore and Gillan especially , maybe the best of both the first two album tours would have given them more scope , but this would have taken some serious forward planning .For me it showed the reunion had come to an end and the band sounded a little old and tired as one reviewer said at the time .."not better , not worse just older". I often wonder if any of the live performances from 85-88 were good enough to relate to the lofty status the band had at the time , the set list rarely changed and the improvisation / jamming? could it really be described as that . Just going through the motions in my opinion.

Don't feel so bad about missing the HOBL show. Here in Kansas City, Blackmore was in a piss poor mood the whole night. He spent nearly the entire show glued to the drum riser, rarely acknowledging there was an audience. It was obvious that the band was in bad shape and I figured it was the end. I didn't see the band again until 1997(and had to drive to 9 hours to Chicago for that!)
However, I enjoy the five post-reunion tracks on Nobody's Perfect. All five are (IMO) the definitive versions of those particular songs. I rarely listen to the rest of that album though. All the oldies suffer from a lack of interest by the band and pale in comparison to other versions.
I was back home in Illinois when I bought NP and could have attended the tour...my loss.
I have a friend who lives in Miami, where Ive resided since '84, whose from K.C. area that caught that same show as you...

The biggest problem with the album is the production. It doesn't capture the band's 'natural' sound. It sounds so thin. The audience recordings from the tour reveal a rich, fat sound which is totally absent from the record. Even the ewaker tracks like HLW sound beefy and, well, rock!
My favourite boot from the tour (haven't heard but a half a dozen boots) is definitely Helsinki. Great mood, great playing, and Gillan's on fire!

Was it at the Ice Hall (or something like that, I don't remember the exact name of the location)? I always dream about seeing a hard rock concert at Helsinki's opera...!

Yeah, the Ice Hall. Opera house? They have rock concerts there (I'm not local)?
The most famous music building in Helsinki to also have occasional rock concerts is Finlandia House, designed by Alvar Aalto. I saw BN there last year and it was awesome!

BN would also fit Turku's castle... or Porvoo's church. Aaah! All that good time in Finland...
There was a project to have Nightwish at the opera, but I think that eventually, it didn't get through.

I remember an interview with Lord at the time of the release of NP. He said that the band haven't changed that much, but that the equipment had changed very much over the years. That's very much the reason that their sound changed a lot from the seventies, and I thin he was right about that.
The NP wasnt all that bad, but for me it didn't have that Purpleish sound.
