Last night's show in Phoenix cancelled
WHITESNAKE has been forced to cancel tonight's (Friday, August 7) concert at the Dodge Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona with JUDAS PRIEST and POP EVIL. According to a spokesperson for WHITESNAKE, the band's frontman/leader David Coverdale "has a case of laryngitis and his doctors insist that his show NOT go on tonight as planned. This will not affect other shows and they will be in Las Vegas tomorrow night as scheduled."
The spokesperson adds, "We are very sorry for the inconvenience but this sort of thing cannot be helped.
"I am sure you will join me in wishing David a very speedy recovery… and hope he stays out of the direct line of the air conditioning from now on."
JUDAS PRIEST and POP EVIL will both reportedly perform extended sets at the Phoenix concert to make up for WHITESNAKE's absence from the event.

Re: Last night's show in Phoenix cancelled
Yes, there's a horrible clip of the middle section of Still of the Night from a few nights ago and DC is in big, big trouble with it. Can't help but think that, at his age, it's attempting to "hit notes that only dogs can hear" rather than air conditioning that will have caused his laryngitis. More evidence, if ever DC needed it, that it's time for a change......

You're thinking of this clip of SOTN from Costa Mesa?

DC sounds really bad here and Drury does most of the singing. Time for a change yes.
Check out this clip from Heaven and Hell in Vancouver the other night for some really inspiring stuff vocally, otoh. The man is now 67. And still at that age Dio doesn't have any real competition from other hard rock singers. Quite incredible really.

Great stuff from the wee man but to say he doesnt have any competition these days is plain daft he HAS lost a lot since his glory days of the 70s and 80s and of the bands i have seen in recent years(which include Heaven and Hell,Whitesnake,Deep Purple,Queen,Iron Maiden,Glenn Hughes etc etc)Bruce ****inson IMHO gave by far and away the best vocal performance closely followed by Paul Rogers,Dougie White and Glenn Hughes have to say Ian Gillan was brilliant too in Glasgow 2007 though he has gone back a bit since it would seem so while RJD is still great (for his age) there are guys out there now who are a match for him! Having said that RJD is in my top 3 of all time with Gillan No1 closely followed by DC then Ronnie

Re: Last night's show in Phoenix cancelled
While it's true that RJD's voice has changed since the 70s, 80s and even early 90s (losing some of the grittiness and bark in favour of a more "operatic" approach) he still pulls it off big time. Most of the songs he does with H&H now are not easy, yet he makes it seem so effortless, going up in those higher registers without breaking a sweat. The power is still there and recently he's been pushing his vocals too which is cool this late in the game, imho. In summary, Ronnie's got no "Child in Time" that I can think of (ie, songs he can no longer do justice). Also, where most other singers just don't enough have enough vocal identity on their own to truly leave a mark, Ronnie still sounds so big and instantly recognisable, which makes him one of the greats.
I don't have the full picture of where Bruce D's at vocally so I won't say much, although I do have the impression he's struggling with some of the older/higher stuff.
Glenn is of course still delivering, even though his voice has changed a bit too. More FUNK singing than hard rock these days, which is why I didn't mention him.

There is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that RJD is one of the greats!!!and is of course instantly recognisable as are Gillan,Coverdale and ****inson! dont agree that the H&H stuff he is doing these days is all that difficult and taxing for him vocally its all pretty much mid tempo plodders which he does brilliantly but safely as for him not having a CIT ie a song he cant do justice to i totally agree but then he never had anything like the range Gillan had so didnt have as much to lose! for me Ronnies great strength was/is his wonderful vocal tone and melody never cared much for the growling he has used at times especially in the early H&H years

Ouch! Must hurt to sing like that... He CAN sill be far better than this, but a performance or two like that should make all warning lights flash!

Re: Last night's show in Phoenix cancelled
I was there and I thought Coverdale was great in Costa Mesa. There's no question he's got what are now severe limitations, but he can still scream good and I enjoyed the show. It didn't seem as bad as those clips from Europe a year ago. It's different when you are actually there, but it does sound horrible on You Tube. It's clearly not 1984 or 2003 anymore, but the man is still to me one of the best frontmen in the business. I think he musthave really strained himself Wed night, he was screaming like his soul was on fire..It was something to see and hear. The band didn't even work on Thursday!!! God the band must be tuned way way down though...to like C # (from the normal E. (translated to three half steps down or a whole plus half step) In laymen's terms: If you were to sit at a piano and play one key- its actually three keys below that key= that's a huge drop!!!! It's wierd to hear the songs in such low keys. I enjoyed the show immensely anyway and it wasn't the horror I thought it would be. Got backstage thanks to a friend and Doug was very nice and humble when I said how much I love Good To Be Bad. DC was not found- I guess not socializing didn't help his voice any. I really wanted to talk to my new favorite drummer Chris Frazier but it got interrupted after my first sentence by a phone call and there were tons of people trying to talk to him too so will try again at Namm. Reb was also very nice, and funny as hell. Quote of the week must be when I told him I have every Winger album and he said "Even IV?!!" It was kind of a Dio reunion backstage as Doug, Jimmy Bain and Simon Wright were there. It was also a reunion of subs from my cover band- an ex bass player and drummer were there too. Funny I didn't know any of us ran in those circles. Cool.
Costa Mesa Set:
Best Years
Bad Boys- Children of the Night partial.
Love Aint no Stranger
Slow and Easy partial
Lay Down Your Love
Crying in the Rain
Is This Love
Gimme All Your Love
Here I Go
Still of The Night
