John, thanks for that. I do agree that You Tube clips can sometimes make even a good performace sound bad, and that it always does sound different at the gig itself. However, the fact that DC "screamed" so well at the gig doesn't really convince me he had a good night. I don't know when or why he started to believe that screaming was what people like about his voice. I remember early Whitesnake shows when there was barely a scream to be heard in the entire concert and where his ability to SING with such passion and feeling could touch your soul.

Oh yes, that's how I prefer my David as well.
The album Northwinds remains one of his best performance to me.

Well, delivering Children of the Sea the way he does here is not exactly "a walk in the park" either emoticon

Decent enough performance (for someone of his age) but cmon the voice just isnt what it used to be and that sounded dare i say a bit old and tired and a bit FLAT!!Age catches up with everyone and it HAS caught up with Ronnie he is still one of my all time favourites though

Flat? emoticon Sorry, can't agree with you here. He's still got a big voice in the way most of the others don't have.

Which others would you be talking about??
You are entitled to your opinion of course buy hey listen to Children of the sea from the 80s and listen to that recent performance and then tell me that his voice has not reduced in both power and tone he now sings like an old man which is exactly what he is!! there is no shame in that but it is nevertheless a FACT. His voice is still instantly recognisable though as you say and he is still worth listening to but to say he has no equals at this stage in his career is simply not true

Here's CoTS from 1981:

Although I will agree his voice was stronger back then (of course) and he was "barking" more than he does today, I think the version he does today stands up well against it.

Which is my point, even though his voice has changed, what he does still sounds impressive. He can still cut it, whereas Ozzy and Coverdale for example, feel less valid as singers today.

I actually never liked the growling and "barking" he did at the start of his Sabbath stint(especially on the Ozzy era songs) i liked the more pure sound he had in Rainbow thankfully after the initial settling in period he did get back to doing his own thing and was awesome in Sabbath.Agree he does sing better than both Ozzy and DC these days(not hard though is it?)I have always kinda felt that outside of the absolutely epic Rainbow albums plus Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules,Holy Diver and Last In Line most of the material Ronnie has sung has been kinda generic metal and not really worthy of the voice he had/has
