This is a necklace I made last night; just strung some beads together.

Wow! That's really pretty! I tried making something with beads once and I turned out to be totally inept at it. *sigh*

Re: Getting crafty

I wonder if I could learn to knit by watching some lessons online. I have knitting needles somewhere, but I have no idea how to knit. It's a shame that most people don't learn things like that from their parents anymore. It would sure be handy now to know how to knit, and crochet, and sew, and I don't know any of it.

I borrowed my daughter's sewing machine but unless I can find a reasonably priced course nearby... well, I know NOTHING sbouy sewing. I don't even know how to set up the machine and get started. I've made a few costumes before, and I sewed them all by hand. The ones made of fun fur just about killed me.

Re: Getting crafty

Well here's a place I'm going to check out. Newmarket is a half hour drive from here.

Evelyn's Sewing Center

did a bit more digging - $60.00 for the beginner class plus $10. for some kit.

Their quilting classes vary a lot in price, and they expect you to have sewing machine experience, so that will have to wait.

Found another one too. Good. Now I can compare prices:

NEWMARKET - 16655 Yonge Street (near Weston Foods)
Brand new, bigger, better, brighter location now open!
This location offers pre-teen, teen and adult sewing classes on an ongoing basis.
Please visit our store, or call 905-898-3908 for more details.

That seems to be it for Newmarket when it comes to sewing.

As for knitting, there is this:

Class LEARN TO KNIT FOR ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS (Beth) Four 1 hour private classes - $60 plus supplies. Bring a friend; $50 per person, bring two friends; $40 per person

Date & Time As arranged.

Description Arrange at our mutual convenience for 4 private classes or, make it a get together activity with one or two friends, to learn to knit. Time slots will be available daytime, evening & weekend beginning in October. You will learn the basics of knitting; casting on, knit & purl stitches, casting off, adding a fringe, sewing seams, all you need to complete a simple first project. Supplies needed include “Knit & Stitch for Beginners”.
Difficulty None (absolute beginner) - have never held a pair of needles before.

Re: Getting crafty

Found the knitting needles. I don't even know where they came from. I have three pairs that say 6 on the, and one pair that says 5.

What does that mean? Does anyone here know? The ones that say 6 all seem to be different lengths and thicknesses.

LOL! I really am clueless about it.

I should be doing my painting, that's what I should be doing. Now that I have a houseguest I don't have a private place to work anymore, though. (She can't help it though; I don't blame her.)
