Alex Lifeson in a dream
I had weird dreams last night, including one with Alex Lifeson! (Lead guitarist of Rush, for those who don't know.) I was driving someone who seemed to be a teenager, yet not one of my kids (a nephew?) and I was heading home, but I had driven past Alex Lifeson’s home earlier and he’d spotted me. (I actually do know his address but would never give it out. I have only considered driving by to have a look at his house because it would give me a wonderful feeling to see him walking to his car or something. But the fact is I would be too shy to acknowledge his presence, let alone pester him -- so I don’t feel too guilty about this drive-by notion...yet I never do it.)
I was telling the teenager in my car that Alex had seen me looking at his house once too often, (or maybe I had taken a photo?) and he now he was following me, as if to teach me a lesson. I looked in the rear view mirror and the driver of a red car did indeed seem to be Alex Lifeson. ('How do YOU like it, lady?!') I drove around a residential crescent where residents seemed to be unusually busy on their yards and driveways, and although I believe it was supposed to be my street, I decided to find somewhere more interesting to lead Alex. We arrived at a huge coliseum and suddenly we were seated inside. Thousands of people were waiting for something to start. I’m under the impression it was a game, not a concert. My companion, whose identity never really solidified, spotted Alex in the crowd to our right and about half a dozen rows higher up. Again I had the idea that he was aware of where we were sitting; half keeping an eye on us. When I waved at him he gave me a stern look but it seemed like he was kind of joking.
Now here’s where it gets weirder. Suddenly Alex was passing something out, and I get the feeling it wasn’t in the stands of a game, but another connected room where about twenty people were standing around. Geddy Lee was at the other side of the room but I was trying to act like I wasn't a big Rush fan so I never tried to say hello. Meanwhile Alex was holding a white cake box and moving past people, offering pieces, but when he got to me he quickly moved the box away from my hand, pretending I couldn’t have any. Then he swung it back again with a mocking attitude which said, “Okay, you’ve been bad but you can have a little piece, I guess.” And little pieces they were! It was some kind of lemon cake with frosting but cut into pieces the size of a large grape! Maybe it was my disappointment with the size of the cake, but the dream ended as I ate it.
