bad credit
Last year when my daughter was apartment hunting a landlord wanted my info to guarantee I would pay her rent if she didn't have enough $$. It turned out I had a bad credit rating and didn't even know.
This made me mad because I had ended up with three credit cards in my name even though two are for my husband's business, and I've rarely bought anything for ME with those cards. I kept my first card a secret for a year and only used it once, to buy Rush tickets online so I could get the early bird seats.
Once my family found out I had a credit card, I was being asked to use it for this that and the other thing that they wanted. Once they had their stuff, they didn't think of it again, and I have a memory problem, so I often pay things late (but I DO pay!)
My husband asked me to get a credit card for the business, since I had more time to go to the bank and we have joint accounts. I guess he didn't realize it would end up in only MY name. So he would order parts using that number and not even tell me. Without someone reminding me to pay, I wouldn't even think of it, until I got a statement showing an overdue amount with interest. If money was tight that week, I still couldn't pay.
For some reason I don't usually think of paying things in portions. Instead I think, "We are owed a big cheque by a customer. When we get it, I'll pay the whole thing!" So when I put a payment on my credit card, I am usually paying it right off.
That doesn't impress them. They would rather hae partial payments, on time, than a big payment that clears the debt, a month or two late. When I was at the bank I said I was going to cancel a card and the teller talked me into getting a new credit card that offers you some kind of rebate rewards. Stupid me. Now I have THREE cards so the debts are just spread around more and more likely to be forgotten.
Now my husband got two parking tickets at the hospital and I can't figure out how. I parked at the same lot, got a ticket to put on my dash, and would have paid the whole amount on my way out except that I left so late that the lady didn't want any money. (???) It was 10 pm.
So how my husband got two parking notices is beyond me. If he didn't push the button to get a ticket, the gate would not have let him in. (????) Anyway, he says "You can pay it online" and I see that if I mail a cheque we will have to pay double the amount, so I end up taking one of MY credit cards and paying two parking fines because he probably didn't put his ticket on his dash.
I've decided I'm paying the two "business" cards right off on Monday at the bank and then canceling them. I'll tell him to go by the bank and open a credit card for the business because mine are canceled and cut up.
I'm going to keep my original card and tell the family "No one can use this anymore except in an emergency, so please get yourselves a credit card and only use it when absolutely necessary."
Sheesh!!
