Re: How Imporant are dreams?
Dreams are very important. Also, the ABSENCE of dreams can be extremely unhealthy.

Re: How Imporant are dreams?
well its a very hard subject to study.
Psychodynamic approach views dreams act as a psychic safety valve, so all the things that bother you are bought to conciousness and forgotten the next morning etc.
I don't exactly remmeber now but the physiological approach views it as just random neurological pulses surging through your head creating images etc, and then the next morning you try to make sense of them (as thats our nature) by making a story out of it, etc.
However because dreams occur universally, its assumed they play a huge roll. What that roll is, we quite don't know, the best we can do is guess.

Re: How Imporant are dreams?
It seems that there is a difference between having thoughts hope and aspirations for our tomorrows and the state of unconscious that we enter in our sleep state. Each of them is necessary for a productive and happy life. Just as our mind needs to have REM sleep in which it plays out all the complexities in our brains, we also need our aspirations and goals in life to give it meaning and justify our existence.
