Part of the fun of this, is we get to tell people what role they play, and then have them play it. I don't think we should provide every possible charecter type for everyone to play so that everyone is happy. XYZ is the game we're playing, so no, you can't be G, R, or A no matter how much you REEEEEEALLY want to.
Mith, I'm digging that summarization. I sort of see this as being an almost Gohithican-style town though, rather than a makeshift set up. Otherwise how would we reasonably explain the long-standing gang feud? I think there is inherit need to "interact" in alternate ways if NPC's (I feel like the dark users and light users should be NPC's, or at least lead by one) are giving out quests towards their goals. Perhaps at some point in the day it is finally revealed what the nature of these pools is, and these locals have to decide where their loyalties will lie.

I sort of feel like we're all going to keep bouncing ideas out there until the day of the event. I think this can probably best be handled if we elect or appoint a small number of people (2 or 3, -maybe- 4) to just hash out a story and let the rest of us know, what they decide will be done and we can go ahead with planning it.

Sounds good to me, Haldour. Do it! Maybe there should be some 3 team battles sprinkled in there?
Anyway, let me know what you want me to do, Elden Yin is no problem. I'll do whatever, I can make those territory poles, if you want to do the territories thing, coins, ears, knee caps, scalps, noses, lips, fingers, whatever.

For the sake of expediting this effort, I nominate Mithris, Nichtmar, Haldour, and Jarred as the people who will have to come together and make all final, definitive decisions regarding the RP aspects of Crossroads.
I propose that they have the plans ironed out and finished no less than one week before Crossroads, so any things that can be made can be bought and made the weekend before Crossroads.
I think they should diligently look at all the other suggestions / feedback made by everyone else in this thread (and people should continue to post!) as there are other people who clearly have feedback for this RP-effort, but as Haldour said, it'll be impossible to pull this together without a clear group of decision makers deciding decisively what's "in" and what's "out" this year.

100% good characters should hook up with the town guard to put an end to the violence. That's their quest goal.
Independants: can act as bounty hunters and assassins and be hired by the Town Guards' more nefarious and less morale leaders to put an end to the violence by by striking the heart of the gangs (gang leaders). That's their quest goal.
Yet another avenue: maybe the town guard might hire someone with excellent speechcraft to negotiate for a cessation of hostilities between the gangs. Or hire one gang to work with the Town Guard to put an end to the others?

The good or bad character thing can still work in a gang situation. Maybe one gang is a group of bounty hunters or vigilantes, out cleaning up the streets the only way they know how, killing bad guys. The "evil" group can rough people up, thieve, or maybe hassle the good bar keep for protection money(if that were allowed...)
The third group could fall somewhere in between, or lean towards one side or another. Anything to make them all want to fight each other.

I kind of like the "protection" money thing... however, I'm not real sure how you'd get weapons into a town that you're not allowed to fight in... Hmmm... perhaps a smuggled dagger could be bought from a less reputable individual in the dark alleyways of the town....
