I still plan to be out there in baggy pants and no shirt. I was just excited cause I thought fighting was going to last a few extra hours. But I was mistaken.

I understand that. Still, getting home after 5 in the morning is unappealing to me.

You can come crash in Atlanta, afterward, for example.

Hey you guys, we're doing a few different things for this event... and you know we'll all make the best of it. We always do.

Sooo, just sleep in, be out there on time, and bring some extra warm clothes to rock out late into the night.

As for people who need to rush home... remember that there's a party (or two!) afterwards, and places to crash!

This event is going to rock. Don't miss it.

Re: Reign of Shadow --- October 10

In case you didn't see the storyline for this event:

I must warn you, the storyline for this event is a little more involved, because the result of the final battle could possibly let the Crown finally fall into Maegamarth's hands. As you'll see in one of these short stories, that would be VERY bad news for The Continent.

However, there is also an opportunity for a group to survive the Black Orc assault long enough that they can claim the Crown as theirs... or at least decide what they want to happen to it in the storyline.

At this event, you'll have a chance to play a Black Orc, but moreso, by the end of the night, you'll have the joy of fighting against dozens of those black blood bastards!

To be a part of this bit of the story, you have to stay for the final battle of the night... and I must say, you don't want to miss it. Without further ado... the storyline teasers for "Reign of Shadow"...

 - The Code of the Horn -

You’ve been hiking quickly through the Pale Mountains with hundreds of Men and Elves of the Eredhel Alliance. You are near the front ranks, and when you look back you see valiant young crusaders, as well as ancient and swift Elvish soldiers. Moving with them, you are empowered, and filled with purpose. Your mission is simple- track down Prince Riavorn, and find the Crown of Maegamarth.
The bitter cold mountains chill your body, but there is something about the Energy of the Elves that keeps you moving. You are also driven by fear. Fear that Maegamarth has already reclaimed his crown… so you push onward.
You look to the front of the unit, and the Elvish scouts signal with their hands… a signal you’ve been trained to understand. The signal means “move silently.”
You climb to meet them at the crest of the ridge. There, you see something that you will never forget- a sea of black. Alliance scouts have reported hundreds of Black Orcs surrounding Belegar- and dozens more scattered all over The Continent. But you never heard of such a giant horde of black bloods, let alone see it with your own eyes.
Fairion, Stonetred, and Lieutenant Baren meet you at the peak and watch the massive army charge over the frozen rocks.
“My Creator,” Lieutenant Baren gasps, with a fear in his voice you’ve never heard before. “We had… no idea.”
He is right. Until this moment, it was thought that Maegamarth’s black army was starting to dwindle. But it looks like he has pulled his forces out of Belegar, as they lunge for the Crown. It must not be far ahead.
Before the commanders can give any orders to the hundreds of Eredhel Alliance soldiers, a blazing sound cuts through the cold air… you hear the sound of powerful horns echo through the mountain.
“Those horns, they’re not coming from the black bloods,” says Lieutenant Baren. “They come from someone who speaks the code of the horn, and they’re calling for allies.”
“There!” An Elvish commander points to the distance, over the sea of black that seems to ignore the sound. “My eyes can see them- Men and Women, dressed in blue. They are skilled with their spears, but they will be overrun if the Black Orcs decide to focus on them. Look there, they are pinned down at the other side of this valley. “
The horns blare again. Baren understands the horns, “They are not just calling for allies, but they need infantry to fight alongside their spears!”
“Yes, I see them do their work on the black bloods, but its not enough,” the Elf says quickly.
In his craze to obtain his Crown, Maegamarth’s Will is too focused to be aware of the two units on either side of the valley surrounding them. The Black Orc forces could crush them, but instead they rush northward, and it looks like nothing can stop them. The Eredhel Alliance can see this clearly.
The horns blaze again, louder than ever. The sound makes the hair on the back of your neck stand high.
“There’s no time to waste,” Fairion hops to his feet. “I say we rally to them.”
“Yes,” Baren unsheathes his sword and points it forward across the valley. “You see that slope? We can push through most of that area unseen, but we have to move fast, and move together.” He looks back at the hundreds of skilled soldiers, crusaders, and Elvish Energy Users, and they all feel the rush of the horn’s call. “Warriors of the Eredhel Alliance! Crusaders of Eryndor! We must act quickly. Today we take advantage of the dark lord’s mindless minions. Today we spill blood through this snowy valley and turn it black. Let us meet our allies in need!”
The soldiers hop to their feet as the Elvish horns ring out in response. Although the languages of the horns are different, anyone who knows the code of the horn can understand the messages between them. They tell one another to rally together, and spill black blood on the way to one another’s forces.
The spearmen in blue change the call of their horn. It is not the sound of distress or fear… it is the sound of fury.

(then begins the righteous battle of the Fury meeting up with the Eryndor Crusaders and the army of the Eredhel Alliance. The only way they can unite? Plow through the endless Black Orc forces between them.)

- The Visions of Maegamarth’s Will -

All Elves are in tune with Energy, but none feel the ways of the world like the Oracle named Cyron.
Now Cyron sits with the Halfling Linwe, a young, bright Eryndor Crusader. Linwe has always known that her dreams and visions were more than mere imagination. Her last few days studying Energy with Cyron has opened her eyes to many new abilities, and new visions… but nothing can prepare her for what she is about to see.
Cyron is dipping her long fingers into a tiny pool of smoky oil that seems to make her fingertips translucent. This is the first time that Linwe has sensed distress in the great and ancient Cyron.
“Linwe, keeper of the Light, I must show you something, and it must happen now,” Cyron says coldly. “Are you ready?”
Linwe thinks of a hundred words to share her heart with Cyron, but instead the words fall short- She simply breathes deeply and nods to the ancient Elvish Oracle.
Cyron closes her eyes as the two sit together, face to face. “This will be painful, but you must see what I see… the dark lord has dropped his guard. All of his thoughts are entirely on the Crown. This time is a window, and we must fly through it while we still can.”
Linwe closes her eyes and slowly nods.
Cyron places her translucent, oiled fingers gently over Linwe’s ears… and immediately Linwe feels the glorious flow of Energy. At first the feeling of joy, of complete understanding washes over Linwe, but immediately her mind dives into the shadow, as the Elf and Halfling send their spirits deep into darkness… deep into the Will of Maegamarth.
When Linwe sees the Crown in his dark mind, it is pulsing with Dark Energy. The same pulse is felt though Maegamarth’s minions, who throb in sync with the echoed pounding of the black Crown.
His minions are so close, that his twisted fantasies become real to Cyron and Linwe. They see the powers that Maegamarth will have if he is to reclaim his Crown. He already has dark desires for the moment the Crown touches his skull. In that very moment, The Continent will never be the same.
Visions: rotten flesh and bone, all over the world, become servants of his dark will. Linwe sees Maegamarth’s craving to re-animate all of that dead bone and meat, as the wicked creatures climb up to the surface.
He would see through them, smell through them, taste through them, and kill through them, gutting every living creature in sight, only to possess their body for his own desires of onslaught and destruction.
She sees skeleton horses crushing townspeople. She sees freshly killed soldiers, still gripping their weapons, immediately giving their soul to Lord Maegamarth, and slaying their old allies, friends, and family
Suddenly a sinking feeling takes Linwe deep into despair, and she nearly loses her psychic connection with Cyron. She sees the depth of Maegamarth’s desire for annihilation. She sees that it has no end. It is not part of the cycle of the world, but the end of it all, and the crown is the first step to making that happen.
The most terrifying feeling comes to the young Halfling when she understands that Maegamarth’s true need for the Crown is because he is tired of hiding. He is ready to unleash his death minions upon the world, and he wants to do it with pride. He is excited about the war that the feeble soldiers of the Continent will bring him. He wants their anger. He feeds on it. He wants them to come at him, so he can slice them open, claim their bodies and spirits, then laugh at them for their years of ignorance and greed.
He craves his freedom… and as the pulsing sound of the Crown echoes through Linwe and Cyron’s spirits, they realize that he is moments away from finally reclaiming it .
Even Cyron, ever-wise, is terrified to know that nothing can stop him now. Maegamarth feels his reign of shadow coming, and whoever has his crown now is bound to suffer the full wrath of Maegamarth’s black and gray army.

 - The Will of Samson -

Samson doesn’t remember how long he’s been running. In fact, he doesn’t even know where he is.
He does know that his blade actually feels a bit heavy, soaked with black blood, and no matter how fast he runs he doesn’t seem to get tired.
Samson laughs to himself, “Heh, must be my new hat.”
A black, spiked crown rests atop his skull. Samson doesn’t realize it, but his disoriented mind is the only thing keeping him from going insane with a Dark Energy overload.
Maegamarth’s Will is shouting in his head, but to Samson it’s just a whisper in the distance, “Mine, mine, mine, mine.” The voice echoes in his mind. No matter, Samson continues sprinting through the jagged mountains, wondering if he’ll ever get tired. The truth is, he’s a bit curious to see some other ways he can slay these black monsters, but maybe its best to try new sword techniques when he’s not outnumbered by a few hundred.
When he reaches a high lookout, he turns around and suddenly remembers what he’s running from. “Oh right, its those non-dead things.” Behind him, a wave of Undead and Black Orcs are coming for him.
He’s wise enough to start running south again, immediately loving his new-found speed as he hops down the peak.
When he looks ahead, he is finally shocked into sobriety. Its one thing to outrun an army, but its another thing entirely when a much larger, heavily armed horde of black bodies is rushing toward him in the distance, and they seem to be coming from all sides.
In shock for just a moment, the pulse of Maegamarth’s Will begins to shout in Samson’s mind, “Mine. Mine. Mine! MINE!”
He looks all around, and it seems like everyone in this damn mountain is coming for him. Just as he decides what possible way he could run next, he sees a much smaller group in the distance, and they seem to be signaling to him.
Samson starts running to them. Hopefully they have a good plan for how to fight off a few thousand minions of a dark lord… or hopefully they’re at least fast enough to keep up with him.

(then begins the final survival battle of Samson and ________. The group that has the honor of deciding the fate of crown will be the group with the most members of their unit alive at the end... if anyone.)

Come out and fight back the forces of Maegamarth before its too late!
