Anyone getting in on the plastidip wave?
Wynar is actually down here with us in High Spires, and he used to be oooooollldd school Aratari "back in the day." A really cool dude.
Anyhow... have ya'll seen this thread?
http://www.dagorhir.com/forums/index.php?topic=15445.0
Here's more examples of his gear:

This is LARP-level shiz built to Dagorhir specs. For those who still want to make turbo weapons (low weight, long length), that can easily be done using Wynar's plastidip method as well... he just personally likes making bulkier, smaller weapons (I did say he was old school).
So, anyone out in Eryndor lands getting in on this stuff? I can't wait to show you the Paladin gear I'm bringing to the table. :-)

Re: Anyone getting in on the plastidip wave?
I predict that 10 years from now PD weapons will be standard on the field and most everyone will incorporate the use of PD in the making of their weapons....I love seeing this stuff and have longed for a melding of more traditional LARP weaponsmithing with Dag. The weapons will be glorious!!!!!!

Re: Anyone getting in on the plastidip wave?
I've used Plastidip before (for a non-Dag related project). I would say that I am pleased with the material, but I don't see it becoming the standard versus cloth covers and tape. But its certainly pretty, so get with the making already. -Caeddyn

Re: Anyone getting in on the plastidip wave?
Catsi, you just essentially dissed Wynar's weaponsmithing skills. A weapon can be both well-built, structurally sound and highly functional AND be pretty and realistic-looking.
As soon as I get a few time-sensitive sewing projects out of the way, I'm gonna be ALL OVER learning how to make my already nice weapons look even cooler I'd do it now, but I have to make myself sew or I'll never get to it!

Re: Anyone getting in on the plastidip wave?
Basic Eryndor blue sword = approx. $4.50 in materials to make.
Taking said sword and then pimping it with PD (assuming you're making a few swords) = +$4.50 approx.
If you make a sword with $15 of raw materials (fancy foam, fancy core, fancy fabric, fancy tape), you then add again about $4.50 for the sword.
Its not the cheapest, but its not the most expensive "pimp my ride" thing ever, either. And fortunately, if anything, PD on a sword seems to make it a little sturdier, so you actually get a mild bonus to durability.

Swords don't last long enough for me for this to be worth it.
