Re: Anyone getting in on the plastidip wave?
Plastidipping seems neat. My only concern is how quickly I go through weapons on if my upcoming plan is viable.
The most important thing I have ever pondered on these boards:
Does plasti-dipping need to obey the no non-periodesque fabric cover rules?
Realistic example: I am considering plastidipping Yasser Arafat and Snoop Dogg onto the flats of my sword. But, I have the sneaking suspicion that people are going to complain about Snoop Dogg's visage on my sword. So, in your, oh gentle Eryndorhim, opinion does Snoop Dogg violate the cover rule?

I weighed the club.
Before the PD (tape covering the haft) it weighed 12.15 ounces.
After the PD it now weighs 12.25 ounces.
Sexy, so virutally no weight added. FYI - my concern was not with weight... I was just curious. I am going to try this, just have to think of where i want it...
i think that's what she said... i'm not sure though

The "the no mundane logo or prints" is worded for the weapon in general, not just its fabric covering component.

What about using the Plasti Dip did you find difficult? Does it not coat evenly or something?
I'm planning on picking some up and trying it out soon.

Went to a couple different places, can't find it for sale anywhere. What stores had it, and more specifically, where did they keep it?

Re: Anyone getting in on the plastidip wave?
I've been informed it can be found at Menard's, Lowe's, and Home Depot. Look near the spray paints.

Re: Anyone getting in on the plastidip wave?
Lowes and Home depot have it near the spray paint. It was actually hard to find because it was mixed right in the middle of it and blended in. I am stil trying to find clear PD, from what i've heard though that has to be ordered online....
Haldour, what i found hard was simply just working with the plasti dip. It dries super quick and basically looks like crap until it dries. So it is hard to find the "right" look, cause you have to work fast with it because it is super thick liquid. The problem i was having was just that i would think it was good then it would start to dry and then it wouldn't look right but i couldn't adjust it because the thick goo turned into tacky substance. If you tried then you would get a "ball" of tar that dried that way....
Again, this just takes practice, eventually i kind of got the hang of it...
Here is my best tip i can give... BE PATIENT! Seriously, give like 30 mins between each coat of PD. AND This is a big one give ATLEAST a day (if not 2) between the time you put the fun foam on and the first coat of PD... if you don't then the PD wil get under the foam and cause it to peel up... My first try failed because of this.. Something about DAP and PD.

Re: Anyone getting in on the plastidip wave?
here's where I ordered my Plastidip:
http://www.quiltershusband.com/
they have a wide selection, good price, and shipped fast.
I bought the 22 ounce (or whatever size was closest)... 2 cans of the black, 1 can of the clear. I also bought the plastidip thinner. The thinner makes painting with the plastidip easier, and brings dried out in thecan plastidip back to life.
This stuff is actually really easy to use... BUT. You have to be patient with your building. Most of us have a "band out my entire weapon start-to-finish in a couple hours" mentality. This is wrong if you're using plastidip, and will waste your time and create a crap weapon.
Let stuff dry and set. Separate the steps across a day or two. Read Wynar's tutorial, in detail, on the Dagorhir baords. Use decent acrylic pain (not the stuff you buy for 80 cents at Wal-Mart) and use decent paint brushes (not the ones you buy for $5.00 and get 40 brushes at Wal-Mart). Using decent gear makes a WORLD of difference in the build, and will make you a happy camper in the long run.
