The New 'V' - Morena Baccarin channels her inner Jane Balder (previews)

If Morena Baccarin, the heroine from 'Firefly' and a kinda baddie on 'Stargate SG-1', is anything like Jane Balder was on the original 1980's series, the upcoming ABC remake of the cult classic sci-fi miniseries ought to be fun. She plays the leader of an alien race (renamed Anna for the remake instead of Diana) that comes to Earth promising humanity advances in technology and medicine, but once again concealing ulterior motives that aren't so beneficial to Earth. The first four episodes bow Stateside next month, with additional episodes coming in late February.

Thanks for posting. emoticon

However, the actress in question seems to be a very poor substitute for the glamourous Jane Badler. She has all the sex appeal of a hat rack. emoticon

Another poor bastard who never saw firefly. It's sad.

It's definitely the hair; whoever convinced her to bob it like that needs to be punched.

Eating a few more bananas and cutting back on the workouts would help some too.

As long as they get her to start running around and zapping some hapless subordinates/rivals, I don't really mind how thin she is or how she does her hair. (She already has beauty on her side, IMO.)

Remember the Jane Balder/Sarah Douglas plotline from the second miniseries? Douglas' character tried to take over fairly quickly, and ended up being zapped by Balder. That they did well.

They tried it again for the original '80's series with June Chadwick as her rival, but that turned into a never-ending soap opera that stole the show from the rest of the cast. In twenty or so episodes, they had one decent catfight, sandwiched between recycled, repetitive yaketty-yak and ultimately meaningless glaring, gloating and pouting. On a good day, a typical daytime soap opera can advance its plot further in 20 minutes than the Diana/Lydia plot was advanced in 20 episodes.

Now that Baccarin has played a sci-fi villianess (of sorts) on 'Stargate: SG-1', it will be interesting to see where they take the 'Anna' character, whether she rises above the soap opera antics of the original series - and maybe, whether Balder comes on at some point as Baccarin's (maybe doomed) rival, for there have been rumors surrounding Balder in recent weeks...
