Harry Potter

I've stayed away from the Harry Potter movies & books thinking that it was just kid stuff, but after promising to watch Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, I've become a big fan of Harry Potter. I've only been able to watch the first 3 movies and have just started reading The Prisoner of Azkaban after quickly reading the first two books. I was surprised by how much I enjoy reading these books and recommend them to anyone who hasn't picked them up yet.

Re: Harry Potter

a lot of adults felt like you, i know of countless stories that echo this. Suffice to say the books get better and with only the grand finale left you have started reading at the right time. The majority of people had to wait, sometimes for a year, between each release. Your timing might be fortunate enough for you to read all stories concurrently as if one long book. Lucky you.

I starting reading 'The Dark Tower' series by Stephen King back in 1997. I fell in love with this series instantly while reading 'The Gunslinger' (First book of the series). However, at the time I didn't know it was a series so I had to rush out and buy the next 3 books only to find out that it still wasn't complete and Stephen King hadn't even made plans on when he was going to start another! Sadly I put the books away and waited and waited until I just simply forgot. Now, I think they are complete and plan to buy the remaining books and start reading from the beginnig.

Moral of my post - I dunno really

Back to the Harry Potter series, a must read! Do you know what differences there are in the adult series of these books?

Hello cheekyminx, as far as i can tell and have heard it is merely the cover.

 - I think i've right in saying Dark Towers was written firstly when S.King was in university so technically it could very well be his first series of novels. Even the ones not released were written in manuscript form.

Well done, you crumbled...i always knew you had no will power emoticon . Only joking mate, i think these books are a great read, amongst the best literature written in the 20th Century. People will probably scoff at that but Sales simply do not lie. And i don't know about you guys but i thought Prisoner of Azkaban was the best book of the series...Thus far that is.

Re: Harry Potter

So far Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite movie out of the rest. It seemed to be a bit darker so that's probably why. I just started reading the book.

And yes, Papier Mache, King did start the series when he was in university. They're are 7 books in all now. The 7th is the final! All I need now is money so that I can buy them and the 4th & 5th Harry Potter book. Kev?

Re: Harry Potter

I finished Prisoner of Azkaban yesterday and I must agree with Kev, so far it is the best book. I was disappointed that the movie left out a few things that I thought was important to Harry's character. For example, when Potter is at that lake with Black trying to fight off the dementors, he's sees someone that he thinks is his dad, but soon finds out that he saw himself. Yeah ok, I get that he saw his dad whithin himself, but the book tells it so much better. When I was watching the movie, I thought whatever it is behind the white light looks like a deer or something, not a person! When you read the book, you learn that Potter's dad and friends were able to transform into animals and that James Potter had chosen to be a stag. Which is what Harry sees. I know a movie can never fit everything from the book in it, but I think they should have included a little bit more about that.

That is my main qualm with THAT movie, it doesn't portray the book as accurate as it perhaps could, and in my view what it omitted was vital.

OK the next books/film is action packed from start to finish, but you can miss action out and it won't really be missed. I think the emotional aspect of Book 3 was lost in the film.

Still my favourite book thus far.
