New PB Barbel
had my monthly club meeting so as usual I went fishing beforehand. Its a 100 mile round trip so it kills two birds with one stone.
A glorious day sun shining but with some cloud cover and at first not a breath of wind. The river was low but still with a good flow.
The game plan.... Fish a float legered deadbait down the side and a Barbel rod further out. First mistake all my pike traces still in the cupboard back home. Pike rod back in the car out comes barbel rod no.2
So a hair rigged boilie with a feeder down the side, hemp and wheat as the feed.
Second rod hair rigged pellet with pva bags of mixed pellets cast to a deep channel.
My dearly beloved rang me, hi I said beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep bye I said threw phone on to chair and struck a vicious run.Thank heavens for bait runners. The fish just ran across river with the clutch screaming. I regained line and struck another problem the fish grounded on the gravel bar in front of me. Had to give line so the current washed it off eventually playing it in front of me it took 4 goes to get it in the net.
A big deep fish, set up the avons and waited till the needle settled yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee a new PB Barbel all 10lb 4oz of it.
The it started knock after knock after knock must have gone on for over an hour Strike nothing let it develop nothing. Did I care was I bothered NO. Fished through till 6.30 with nothing.

New PB Barbel
Just a tad. It was one of the fastest longest runs I have had from a pike. After that initial run it was a case of pumping the fish in.
