Oh great,
Mattie rushes off to the fishing shop to buy pellets, following our recent success on the severn with them and I could have just made do with some home made anchovy boilies.

It's ok before you say (but the pellets are what's fishing best on that stretch at the moment) I know! I was only joking.LOL

Do you think that if we were to return to Atcham again that we could have just as good a day as before or do you think that they will have gone off their feed abit by now? Also I meant to ask you if you knew Graham, who wrote the article, and where does the dove run

The boilies were used on the Trent and were actually a change bait as pellet didnt seem to be working.

I havent as yet caughton boilies on the Severn,

We were lucky to some extent that we hit the river just right after some rain had raised the level and added some colour. The Severn has on average been running at .5m BELOW summer normal

I have never met Graham. Basicly the Dove forms the boundary between Staffordshire and Derbyshire

Izzack,
I have a question for you, is it true that pet foods can ce ground down to form a ground-bait? is chum mixer any good for this purpose as I have a spare bag that is to be thrown away, they will be off before I get to use them as the carp at the farm will hardly ever take from the surface.
I would imagine that fish varieties of Brekkies or Go cat and the likes are amongst the best for grinding down if what I've heard is right.
I've heard of using pet foods from yourself and from angling press, but I'm unsure of what is meant by this, do you put it in a blender or food processor or something like this?

Thanks to whoever has done my sig,
that looks great!
Was it you Murf? if so I'm delighted and thankyou very much.

Back in the good old bad old days. Before boilies a range of baits were used based on dried cat and dog foods. All pastes of course. There is a very large selection of of shall I say tastes.

Mixers however are just a biscuit not a balanced pet food. If there sealed up well in a plastic bag they should keep. They could be ground down and added to groundbait.
A coffee grinder is best but a food processor can do the job. I use a maggot and then a squatt riddle to remove large lumps etc.

If water is used to make the paste then it would slowly dissolve as it was used on the hook. Adding a small amount of semolina to the ground pet food and then mixing with egg makes a longer lasting paste. Which can also be boiled making boilies.

If you need any more info let me know and I'll see what I can dig up.

Thanks Izzack,
That's just what I wanted to know.

You can be sure that next time Go-cat fish variety is on offer as it regularly is at my local kwik-save I'll be stocking up with a couple of boxes as it has been half price a couple of times this year.

My only problem is my cat, as it has a habit of opening the catfood cupboard when it's able to sneek into the kitchen and even after i fitted a latch to the cupboard door it still found a way of opening the flipping thing.LOL
Thanks again for the info.

By the way,
I've now got 100 yds of chub fishing on a local river at Penybont it also includes a wier pool where I know Pike inhabit and also very large Grayling, chub and trout. it can throw up very nice fish that are normally unexpected.
It's free fishing as the banks belong to my Dads friend who is an ex- bank manager who go's shooting with us occassionally, I'm also thinking of asking a farmer who owns land where I caught my PB chub as the old farmer sold up and moved to scotland. Hopefully I'll end up with a couple of miles of fishing on the Ithon, there'll be two wier pools and fishing with wooded banks, around ten chub pools all in all.

I know a stretch of the upper Severn that has some very nice grayling. If the idiots who fish in the summer havent killed to many pike then theres a few biggies to.

Had a bit of good news this morning I'm improving so the tests said? I was told it would take at least 6 weeks before I get back to normal, unfortunatly my normal will be approx 50% below what it should be in a healthy male. I will know more by the end of the week after a few more home visits by nurses/physios etc. As soon as I feel up to it we'll arrange another visit to the Severn Mattie

That's great news Izzack,
I'll get some practice in on the chub and give that new rod a run through its paces.

Barbel Fishing

Guess where I'm going tomorrow Izzack?
Fishing on the river Wye.
I thought I'd go fishing seeing as I'd got the day off, so I racked my brains for a place where I may catch a barbel not too far away from home. I decided to go to Whitney on Wye out towards Hereford by an old toll bridge that I know of,then after phoning Dave to see what he was up to Friday he said "I know a bailiff down there on an estate" he gave his friend a call and rang me back to say that we could fish this estate with something like three miles of river bank to it. Apparently it's full of Barbel and not many people are allowed to fish it.
I'll let you know how we get on tomorrow night.
