Re: Farm Fishing Photos

I’d been looking forward to fishing the farm pools for over a week now and after the hour long journey from my house to the farm, I wasted no time in unloading my tackle and quickly trudging off down to the pool.

I’d been told by my friend (the farmer) to mind out for the swan that was nesting on the bottom bank to the pool as both the male and female swans were attacking people who stray too close, so I made my mind up before even seeing the pool as to where I was going to fish. Fishing was difficult on the waggler, due to bits of weed being blown up and down the pool. I put my other rod out on the bite alarm hoping to get myself a carp, but after ten minutes I heard splashing up in the shallows which confirmed my thought’s that the carp were spawning. I didn’t have a touch on the bite alarmed rod all day.

I carried on persevering on the waggler and every time that I could fish a spot without the wind and weed dragging on the float, bites were good. I love the roach they never cease to feed “or rarely” so you can always count on them for some great sport. My biggest roach from this venue is over 2lb which in most anglers’ books is a specimen fish and seeing as I caught two specimens last season I was hoping for another.

After catching a couple of small roach in my original spot, I decided to move to near the bull rushes in the hopes that the bigger roach were using them as shelter from the prevailing sunlight. My theory was correct and I was soon into one of the pool’s larger residents. Sadly it was nearer 1lb than 2 but nevertheless it was just as welcome on my catch list as a 2lber would’ve been. I fed some more crumb and a few grains of corn and carried on fishing, this time with sweetcorn instead of bread flake on my hook. It wasn’t long before I was playing an even bigger roach; the fish took me around something substantial as my thought’s turned to a carp I’d lost in the same swim last season. The farmer had later told me of a fence that used to stand in that position and how consequently he’d been unable to remove the offending steak from the water (someone remind to take a bow saw next trip) I pulled in each direction hoping to free my prize but to no avail. It started to rumble with thunder as I tried to free the fish and consequently I was soaked through to the skin with the following heavy shower. Getting fed up with the whole situation I decided to lay the rod down and slacken the line in the hopes that the fish would swim out. I smoked a cigarette and had a drink whilst watching the end of the rod. I was just about to pick the rod up again when the tip tightened and the rod started edging its way towards the pool. I managed to grab the rod before it could disappear into the watery depths and was chuffed to bits upon landing my biggest fish of the day, a sparkling bar of silver weighing 1lb 6oz not a new personal best but just as gratefully received.
