Ramsey Campbell
I also started a Ramsey Campbell thread on Satin's horror board http://com4.runboard.com/bthehauntedforest which I am astonished more people haven't joined, to be honest :omg:
Er...sorry, got carried away with me plugging there (jest1212)
Ramsey Campbell, without question (in my mind, at least) the greatest living author of horror and fantastic fiction. Probably the most accomplished horror writer of all time. World and British Fantasy Award winner more times than anyone else, and with very good reason. Creator of some of the most genuinely disturbing novels you could imagine, such as The Nameless, the story of a parent's worst nightmare; Ancient Images, a brilliantly original tale horrors of the cinema becoming terrors of the real world; The Hungry Moon, where an entire village is trapped beneath an impenetrable and inescapable darkness while a hideous creature wreaks havoc among the community; and The Face That Must Die, a superb portrait of psychosis, and the extremes of the human mind.
Anyone who hasn't read Campbell should seek out his work. Any of the above novels would be a good place to start.
