Edgar Allan Poe

yeah, i know i'm a nostalgic one, but for me he is the real master of horror writing...
his 'the cask of amontillado' is full of metaphors, even the name of the tale itself, the characters , 'montresor' and 'fortunatto'.
'the masque of the red death' is another good tale, more terrifying than the previously mentioned, for it shows the horror of dying by bleeding, another metaphorical title poe uses so well.
i admire stephen king deeply, but poe is the precursor of horror writing, imho.

better reply to myself!!!
many horror movies from vincent price are clearly inspired by poe, and i'm a huge fan of these movies, the so-called b movies, but i think they are great, specially when you have movies such as 'scream' , 'i know what you did last summer'...do i really need to go on???
*sighs*

Poe is the master from which many horror writers have taken inspiration. He was also mad as a pickle, which always helps in this particular genre :B

"Annabel Lee", a great poem by Poe, not a horror one, I must say, but for me one of his best works in Poetry.
He describes the death of his wife and all the pain it had caused him, asssuming that not even angels nor demons could separate their souls any more, for their love was bigger than the love itself.

Re: Edgar Allan Poe

In "The Raven", Poe created an atmosphere of loneliness and horror, and also the theme of the death is expressed. He asserts that he prefer being lonely than in the company of a raven, which would be also the symbol of the death.

For those of you interested in his poetry, these are merely my views on his poems, nothing more, and also a resummé for those who are interested in reading it.
