Copyright Question. o.k i now have permission to ask this question in it's own topic so here i go. I was wondering what the copyright situtation was. I see that Kevin puts a credit to his work at the bottom, but also at the very bottom of the board is a copyright notice. My question is "is this then conclusive"?
What i mean is that is all i need to do? you don't have to register or anything first? or have any of you registered before you posted your work?
… Crap even more confusing it is differen't from country to country. But from what i gather a credit to yourself is usually good enough. it says on one part if you post a copy of your work to yourself, or e-mail to yourself, then that is as good as anything. interesting.
… A word of caution to writers that are looking to be published: Publishers normally do not like it when authors post their work online and may choose not to publish you.

No you don’t have to register to be covered by copyright. Basically when it comes to the crunch "date" is the defining factor. The copyright at the bottom of the board covers work by the poster of each post, however to avoid any doubt the best thing to do is ALWAYS add a copyright notice at the start of a new work, and at the end of each post. This coupled with the date of the post is very conclusive, however, to be 100% certain you have hit the nail on the head with the "post to yourself" part.
By letter is the best way because the envelope is dated, but what you have to do (and this is crucial) is not open the letter. Put a copy of your work in, and also a letter (preferably hand written, signed and dated ) in with this work. Then post to yourself and don’t open when it arrives and you will have a timeless copyright of your work. It doesn’t have to be paper; a cd or disk in the envelope is fine.
Saying all that, if you get published it’s best to register your work (normally done by a publisher if you choose to go that route) but the relevant copyright website has full information on how that is done. (thanks for that sat’s).
