Re: Important Breaking News: -
When they released their second album, a few of there songs came over here, Forget December was the one i heard on Joe Whiley and almost the same day I heard Konstantine (I think on K-Rock) and from that I just done a search and found a forum on the band. They’ve also had spins on Lemak live (which is when they are at their best). They have played sell out tours over here, funnily enough twice-in Manchester’s academy June 2003 and 13th March 2004, they have also played some intimate gigs in Manchester cafes and unknown to me were on TOTP 21 March 2003! The band are categorised as Indie/Rock/Alternative, which is ridiculous to a certain degree, I’ve also seem them quoted like this “If Indie rock could ever be called elegant, Something Corporate would be that sound”.
The sound of the early Soco was good, but the band are like a fine wine, improved with age (take into account they currently range from 22-25). They were gearing up for a full frontal attack on the music scene this year, but obviously with Andrew contracting leukaemia things got put on hold, as did his side project Jacks Mannequin. The one song that entered the UK charts was Punk Rock Princess, as they said themselves, the song that was “there forced attempt” to go mainstream, perhaps a mistake, they have got better music than this song, which isn’t totally bad, but not a true reflection of there talents. They focus heavily on Piano and Vocals, but also electric guitar and bass, but I find they are at their best with just acoustic guitars and piano.
Out of the two albums they have released the first one, North, sold 250000 copies (and is now starting to sell more again because the band were almost unknown when that was released.) The second album Leaving through the Window had four top five singles and sold 1500000 copies, and is still selling too. They have also released several “special” albums, live ones or rare songs, and they are selling for rut loads on E-Bay, I’ve paid over £100 for two recently (Live at Fillmore (very rare) and Songs for Silent Movies, also rare)
Basically the band has an avid following, they tour a hell of a lot. I’m sure soon they will be regulars on radio 1, but I think you’ll be hearing a lot more of the band given there age and artistic talents. If you could imagine the likes of Kaiser Chiefs or The Darkness, building up a massive "underground" fan base then boom, they get unleashed, i think all who hear Soco's music are expecting the same thing to happen soon (all being well with Andrew).

Ground Control to Major Tom
Seems that every time there's a little length in my rope someone or something is always there to reel me in...Quickly. In the fog of a crazy week of television, newspapers and sold out shows I managed to get locked up for a brief observation stay at my favorite local haunt, the UCLA Medical Center. It was weird being back. On any given day if my travels bring me through westwood I try my hardest to avoid even a slight gaze towards the brick monster that I've come to know as prison. Is it wrong to hold such contempt for a place that is responsible for your survival? Proabably. The nurses came in and out, like some strange class reunion. These people who I relied upon every day for months to bring me news, the good and bad, check my vital signs and cheer me up, not to mention several less glamorous tasks. They filtered in and out as the days came and went and together we relived the hard stuff. My last day when I was too sick or weak to say goodbye. The day they pumped my sisters stem cells into my body, while I layed there in shock. The nights they packed my body in ice trying to keep my fever below 104 degrees. As strange as it was to have these moments rising to the surface there was a certain pride in all of it. Not just for me, but I think maybe for the hospital staff, too. Despite being admitted for a few days I was in general good health, with a full head of hair, finally weighing more than 120 pounds, and I'm alive. In a way it was like returning to the scene of a bad car accident and as hard as it was for me to relive the memories I was there with those who brought me back from the dead and there was a certain peace to it. No one really said it, but we all laughed a lot and I think quietly we were celebrating. Celebrating that as fragile as our little worlds can be sometimes their stronger than we give them credit for. No one talks about the nurses, but they see it all and I don't know how they shake it at the end of the day. They are heroes in the truest sense of the word. Soldiers in a trench war that often lasts their entire lives. They are there when our worlds are ugly and raining down. They prepare us to rejoin humanity and rarely get to see the true power of their contribution. They stay there with the sick while those they've healed wander the streets trying hard to forget we ever needed them. Not because we're not thankful, but because some things you'd just rather forget. Well, for all you at the front lines in the worlds hospitals I'd like to say thank you, from all of us whom you may not hear from on a daily basis. We're out here living our lives, and in large part because you brought us around when it got to heavy to do it on our own. Let us shut down the steets and hold a parade, for all of you who see us all through our worst moments and never get to witness the parades our lives have become thanks to you.
