Scottish Football
Since moving to Aberdeen in 2004 my viewing of my beloved Aston Villa has been courtesy of Sky Sports and Match of the Day....... So this year i thought to myself what the hell, in for a penny in for £273 i will get a season ticket for Pittodrie to watch Aberdeen........ After my first match on Sunday, I demand that they rename the stadium PIT OF DIRE as what i witnessed was less than League 2 standard back in England........
Aberdeen started slowly, with the manager Jimmy Calderwood adopting a novel 0-9-1 formation, with the game plan being that the keeper bypassed the non-existent defence and over packed midfield and pumped high balls up to the 5'7 striker. Who, in turn was easily beaten to the header by the Hearts defence who were at least a foot taller.......
After some more strange game play........ ie triangle passing with only 2 players involved, Aberdeen managed to score a goal........ I am not quite sure how, or indeed why it happened but they did....... this goal shocked the Aberdeen team, they had not prepared for defending a lead and on the stroke of half-time Hearts equalised with a well placed shot from the edge of the area.
Second half....... And Jimmy Calderwood came up with his second major tactic faux pas..... when he decided to tie Darren Mackies shoelaces together and ordered Zander Diamond to pass the ball to the opposition at every opportunity, which he duly did to the best of his ability.
The half went on and neither team looked like scoring, a foul on Chris Mcquire of Aberdeen saw the Hearts defender booked......... and the free kick was given to Hearts... go figure as they say in the US of A........ Darren Mackie provided further light entertainment with his range of passing skills....... his favourite pass was to the invisible man on the overlap....... which he amazed the crowd with again and again....... 15 minutes before the end of play my attention was taken by a flock of seagulls who had started circling overhead....... no doubt in anticipation of the final whistle so they could swoop down and devour any half eaten pies or burgers......
So the game ended in a draw 1-1....... and i consoled myself that i was the only person in the ground with a sense of irony....... i judged this from the fact the the Aberdeen Supporters ridiculed the Hearts fans for their lack of numbers..... whilst failing to notice that Aberdeen had failed to sell almost 6 thousand tickets themselves.......
So next match is next sunday v Celtic........ stay tuned!!!!

Re: Scottish Football
There are no "Big Clubs" in Scotland Kev......... Granted Rangers and Celtic fans like to talk themselves up.... Celtic fans think they would win the Premiership due to there defeat of Manchester United last year....... but what they fail to see is that in that game United had already qualified and even a 100 nil defeat wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference.
Rangers are a laughing stock in Scotland, and the fans are all stuck in the past with sectarian and bigotted chanting. Celtic like to take the moral high ground on this...... whilst failing to condemn their own fans who regularly sing Pro-IRA songs.
If they did manage to compete in England, i would see Rangers being only a semi-decent championship team and Celtic would be a Middlesbrough or Sunderland type club.....

Re: Scottish Football
Och aye the noo!!!
Aberdeen 1 - 3 Celtic
Arrived at the game 5 mins before kick off......... and seeing as how this was the current Champions visting i was hoping for a full house..... but it fell at least 3 or 4 thousand short.
Before the players took the field the announcement was made to the fans in the Richard Donald stand to "remove the streamer from the bag stuck to the seat and throw when the teams come onto the pitch" ...... now i say streamer whenin reality it was a roll from a checkout till.... and the Aberdeen fans misheard the instructions and proceeded to "carefully remove the tape sticking the bag to the seat...... use it to seal the bag so the streamer could not escape...... and then throw with venom at the Celtic fans.
So to the match and Aberdeen with there usual baffling formation i think it was 8-1-1 this time...... but again they scored first...... a six yard finish from 40something Craig Brewster - his first in the league for Aberdeen, indeed his first league goal for 23 months..... Aberdeen came close again a few minutes later when an obviously mis-hit shot from Darren Mackie saw Boruc almost palm the ball into his own net. Mackie was again a revelation in the half, with this weeks specialist pass....... the cross to the invisible 10ft player in the box.
2nd Half and Celtic came out with more purpose and played a quick passing game that threatened regualarly. Nakamura came close in the 58th minute as he saw a free-kick come back off the bar..... but three minutes later Celtic were level with Donati finishing off a good move.
Aberdeen attacked again....... Mackie continued to impress the crowd with his close control and the crowd gasped in awe as he beat himself 3 times before falling over Norman Wisdom style and then shouting "Mr Grimsdale". But 5 minutes from the end of the 90 the inevitable happened and Kenny Miller, the least prolific scorer since Robert Rosario popped up with a goal to begin the exodus of the home faithful..... then to rub salt in the wounds, 2 mins into injury time he made a break from midfield and bent a shot round the Keeper from 25 yards.
Again a very poor display of football on the whole, with only a few moments of skill/class...... Millers goal / Nakamura's touch and skill on the ball.
Part of the blame must lie at the door of Stewart Milne, Chairman of Aberdeen who is worth an estimated £350million pounds, from his house building empire. With a team like Aberdeen he could easily put millions into the club and invest in new players..... also with a muti-billion pound oil industry on its door step.... major oil giants such as Shell and BP could also invest in the club. But they and he never will.
Next home game 15th September v Motherwell.

Re: Scottish Football
Its just short of 22,000 apparently........
It looks like a League 1 or 2 stadium in England though...
