Naming Creatures!

I can create my story ideas no problem, plots and characters are a doddle, but i find it really hard to create decent names for a) new beings and b) characters. Characters is slightly easier because I have a base to work with but new beings or weapons is slightly harder. Obviously I’ll have some frame of reference to what I’m working with but I can’t help but make them sound corny and even predictable. Any advice and ideas or tricks that you guys know of?

one trick i was told is getting two names and cutting them in half. badger and rabbit badbit some sort of goblin perhaps. or elephant and squirrel could become elerrel, slithery snake type thing by the sounds of that name.

That method works for a five-year-old or for JK Rolwing, but a real book could not be passed as “feasible” using that method of naming. You need to look deeper and be more profound, find your creatures main mannerism and work off that. Messias, the Latin word for Messiah, use it to describe an ancient god reborn, your Characters name then has a subliminal meaning. Cifra could be the name of a creature who freezes things, or lives in cold temperatures, seeing as the name is a Latin word derived from Arabic and means “zero”, it is mainly used in a Mathematical terms but it's a word everybody knows that also means something else. You have to be creative, you can not cheat on something as important as naming your creatures or characters.

don't have to be offensive it is just one way of many and it does work and you say JK Rowling like that is something bad how many books has she sold and how many have you sold i think her way works for the masses.
