Rebirth of a Classic

Today i was flabbergasted to find that sales of C.S.Lewis Chronicles of Narnia series have risen by 4 times thanks to the upcoming release of the film. This is a good thing, i think this story, despite its religious connotations, should be on every childs bookshelf. It is a book that has many morale issues tackled in a intriguing and captivating way by C.S.Lewis. Something else that made me take note was that the sales of Turkish Delight have also risen by 80%!

Absolutely great. I remember watching the BBC version as a kid, over and over and over again it really was fantastic. And the books, the whole Chronicles of Narnia series are touching on so many levels. Now that Disney are remaking the films I hope that, like you said, this means that more of today’s kids get to read the books, and the religious aspects are not necessarily controversial they are only views. And to be honest as a kid i didn't even realise the lion was a metaphor for god! So often we read too much between the lines rather than enjoying the stories. And the Turkish delight sales increase! Well that would be me, have an addiction to them at the moment!!!

Well i suppose i, like the media at times, am guilty of looking at how an adult looks and something and trying to mirror that onto children, with regards to the books they are a fascinating set of fantasy tales and the film is, from what i've seen, a visual treat. Maybe it’s a case of making a mountain out of a relevant molehill. The story is a good honest story and religion perhaps is a side issue only adults are really going to understand. And the Turkish delight Kev, come on that stuff is vile!

i do not like the narnia story i much prefer lord of the rings both in book and from what i have seen of a film it looks to be for children not adults mostly maybe i am wrong. but the books are okay not the best and better books can be gotten back into childrens reading that narnia or any fantasy book maybe.

oh come on Daz Narnia is a classic for all ages. The story alone is worth reading, but all the humane issues it tackles are inspiring and should be taught to the youth of today, who seem to be going astray! Can't comment on the film sorry.

In a word, yes! The morals are better, and text more relevant to today's society. Why teach Old English? I'm not against Shakespeare being used on the syllabus somewhere along the line, but as a main form of GCSE coursework, i'm saying no.
