Re: Mission #1 *Valley of the Gnomes*

Today was Caden's lucky day! Half the town was gathered around a small man, paying no heed to their surrounding. The short man had there attention drawn, leaving Caden to do what he did best; pickpocketing! As his hands skillfully weaved through the sea of purses and pockets, he listened to what the man, actually a gnome, had to say. Finally, as his pockets began to bulge, Caden walked off, but was stopped short by the word "Reward." Rushing to the nearest shop, he deposited his ill gotten goods on the counter, and receiving his pay. Securing the coins in his belt pouch, he rushed back to the large gathering, where the cround was allready dissapating. Blowing right through whoever stood in his way, Caden went directly to the gnome and simply said "I'll do it."

Rorqale strolled into a new village, the first time he had seen this place. A wind was blowing strongly across the land, and Rorqale’s long dark tresses whipped across his face and eyes. He removed a length of string from his pocket, and with pinpoint hand eye coordination and a fleeting grace, used the string as an impromptu hair band that kept his hair tight to his head.

For a moment Rorqale stood and took in the sights of the village, before a dispersing crowd caught his attention. Out of an instinct born from some of the more baleful villages he had visited, Rorqale leapt with speed and silence behind a nearby thatched roof cottage. He peered around the edge of the building for several minutes as the crowd found their way back to their respective homes.

An odd looking creature was standing, talking to a young boy, no older then 13 at the most. The young boy looked excited and had an eager and enthusiastic stance as he talked to the creature. A sudden urge came over Rorqale, a thought that the creature looked slightly like a goblin. In honesty it didn’t, but Rorqale had goblins on the mind, day and night. The creature more reassembled a man than goblin, but it was clear to Rorqale’s sharp eyes that he was not a man and the being that most resembles a man, to Rorqale, was those foul, dirty, pitiless goblins who would rather hide in the darkness of the land than walk in the sun.

He moved between the houses and cottages with a silence that only a gentle breeze could match. Before coming to rest beside the talking pair, he caught a single sentence that the boy said.
“I'll do it."
Rorqale wondered what the boy had agreed to do, but he didn’t’ have to wonder for long. The odd creature had seen Rorqale, and had left the boy and was now making his way across the town centre. Rorqale placed his hand on the handle of his sword, and it was at that moment the creature dropped a small parchment of paper and hurried away from Rorqale, and back to the boy’s side.

The wind blew another gust, picking up the paper and swirling it in the direction of Rorqale, he plucked the paper from the air and begun to read. Rorqale read about the Gnomes trouble, but hadn’t even read to the “reward” part of the poster when he walked over to the Gnome and said with a stern authority, “Do goblins reside in this valley?”
The Gnome took a step away from Rorqale before answering in a squeaky and somewhat apprehensive voice, “I, goblins sometimes come by the valley tops, but never down inside the valley.”
“So we might meet Goblins!” Rorqale harped, an excitement in his voice.
“Yes, suppose so.” The Gnome answered.
“I will do it.”

Re: Mission #1 *Valley of the Gnomes*

Caden noted immediately that something other than the current conversation had caught the gnomes attention, and followed its gaze to catch a glimse of a tall man. As the man disappeared, headed in the general direction of the square, the small gnome took off that same way. His initial reaction was to reach for the kriss, preparing the huge dagger for whatever might come next, but he caught himself quickly.
Caden instead placed his hands behind his head, his face the image of calm, but in reality, his mind was racing, and his left hand was stroking the small dagger strapped behind his neck, hidden by his golden- blonde mane. He glanced about the area, taking quick note of any cover or escape routes that he or the strange man might use. He found plenty, but none that could possibly fit the strange man.
Taking comfort in his obvious advantage, Caden removed his hands from his neck, and placed them in his pockets. The feel of coins comforted him once again, as he remembered the good news that he had for his family. Not only did he have enough coins to support his family for a few days, but he now had a mission that could bring them even greater wealth.
The gnome returned and they said they're farewells, and then Caden rushed off, running strait for home. Splashing right through the mud that served as his families front yard. Planting a quick kiss on his 4 year old sister's muddy cheek, he ran in through the door and proclaimed the good news "I've got a job!" His parent's smiles drooped only a bit when he went on to explain.
Still a little bit breathless from the dash home, Caden told them about the little man, and the reward for the extermination. Not taking a chance at worrying his parents, he emphasized that there would be seasoned warriors around him at all times.
Finally, with the worry that his parents would deny him this chance off his chest, Caden produced the bulging bag of coins. Before his parents could say a word though, he dropped onto the mat of straw that served as his bed, and went to sleep.

Re: Mission #1 *Valley of the Gnomes*

Aurora was in the Valley of the Gnomes to pick up supplies for her much needed village. They had been low for a couple of weeks now and it seemed that everyone was getting sick. They counted on her and her aide to get what was needed.

It seemed a quiet day and very peaceful in the valley. As she walked by a store a little Gnome was jumping up and down about how the Gnomes were in trouble. No matter how much trouble her village was in she had a duty to keep to Gnomes as they were her teacher.

Turning to her aide she said
Take the supplies the village immediatly. The elders will know what to do with it. Also tell them I shall be home soon, but I have to do a duty in this town. With that the aide ran off to find his horse.

Aurora went to the Gnome whom seemed to make another friend. She turned to the warrior to introduce herself.
I am Aurora I have heard what is happening to this valley. Please allow me to help you get rid of this threat. I am trained in healing plus in elven magic. I would be a great use to you. I also must help as the Gnomes were my teachers so it is only my duty to help them. She waited an answer from the warrior.

Re: Mission #1 *Valley of the Gnomes*

Rorqale stood tall and silent; the young boy ran with speed across the village and was out of sight in no time. For a moment the Gnome looked up and down Rorqale, peering firstly at his leather chest plates baring the markings of Rorqale, a single white line going northeast to southwest, with a crescent half moon, also in white. Then moving his eyes down to rest upon Rorqale’s sword, the Tri-Blade, which was resting neatly in its sheath.

Without any talk Rorqale stood side by side with the Gnome, his natural height making all the more apparent the lack of natural height that the Gnome possessed! The Gnome eyed Rorqale fastidiously and cautiously, but making doubly sure that Rorqale didn’t catch his glare. Within a few more moments of this unusual and uncomfortable spontaneous standoff, Rorqale’s attention was drawn to an elf lady, walking mysteriously in their direction.

The young elf rested beside the Gnome, before turning to Rorqale and saying with an elegant tone only used by elves. “I am Aurora I have heard what is happening to this valley. Please allow me to help you get rid of this threat. I am trained in healing plus in elven magic. I would be a great use to you. I also must help as the Gnomes were my teachers so it is only my duty to help them.”
This statement took Rorqale aback. At first the elf didn’t look at all like any kind of warrior. But it soon dawned upon him that elves were always a mysterious breed. And he reluctantly, and against his usual better judgement, accepted the offer for help from Aurora.
“You are welcome to join us on this quest. Be remember we will face great peril, and you may perish…” Rorqale gave a pert smile to the elf lady, “But also we will get to face many foes that it will only be an advantage to rid from this land.”
The Gnome shuffled uncomfortably beside Rorqale, and edged ever so slightly behind the elf lady who simply nodded to Rorqale and turned to the Gnome.

Re: Mission #1 *Valley of the Gnomes*

Caden woke up later that evening, a question waying heavy upon him; who was that strange man? He couldn't help but realize the fact that this was no ordinary visitor, with all of his agility and grace.
As he walked into the den, Caden was caught off gaurd by the site before him. Gathered in the room was his family, all with an expectant look upon their faces. His oldest sister, Mary, walked up to him, and handed him a beautiful moss green cloak. Next came his older brother, Esoc, who gave him his own prized dagger, which Caden knew to be enchanted. After came his little sister, carrying a neclace with a small pendant on it, and handed it to Caden. Finaly came his parents, who, with teary eyes, handed him a small bag, and a bundle of new clothes, shooed him out the door.
Taking off to the square where he had seen the strange man and the gnome, caden was greeted by yet another stranger.

Trust me sir, I know how to take care of myself. She looked over to the Gnome that was inching behind her. She had no clue why he was so afraid of the human. It didn't look like he had frightened or hurt him in any way.

The next morning Aurora's questions she had asked to herself had been answered. There was someone else who be joining in on this quest. He looked to be no more than teenager and yet he wanted to help the Gnomes. She turned to Rorqale to question him. You are worried about me getting hurt. What about him he is just a kid.

As Caden approached them, he slowed down, sizing up the strange pointy eared woman. As he watched her, he caught the quick glance that she gave him, and nearly stopped.

Her dazzling blue eyes had, in that second, told him almost as much as he needed to know about her. She was an elf, those unmistakable blue eyes gave that away instantly, revealing even more. The look that she had given him, had shown him that he was a curiostiy, being both good and bad. She obviousley didn't know about him, but was about to find out. Her eyes had also told him that this information would most probably be harmless, as the elf was someone who did not seek advantages over others.

He looked her over carefully, and while here clothes were too baggy to see anything, her stance told him that underneath that garment was a lithe body, containing muscles toned to perfection. After examining her body, he moved on to the clothing itself. There was nothing remarkable, except for the cloak, which had two small bulges that Caden knew to be swords.

Confident that he knew everything there was to know, Caden moved on, not saying a word, but rather waiting to be greeted.

Wren looked up fromm her widdling and looked down upon the scene below her. She was interested in what was happening and wanted to help. Then again, she wasn't sure if they'd let her help. Wren was quite board with staying in one place for long, even traveling didn't make it better if she didn't have a challenge behind it. Besides the other elf caught her attention.Aurora, she said it in a whisper under her breath as if she knew that name from somewhere. Seeing as she didn't have a memory of her past, she couldn't place the name anywhere.

She decided that she would follow the three. That way she could come into the picture when ever she wanted as long as she wasn't caught and seeing as stealth is her specialty that should be no problem.
