Your Fairy Tales

As a kid, they teach you morals (maybe subtly and without you knowing!) make you laugh, cry and always finish "Lived Happily Ever After". But what is it that draws us to these Fairy Tales in the first place?

Everybody I know has his or her respective favorite, be it Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk or The Three Bears…Everybody at least has heard one during their childhood, now to the point of my post. Are these Fairy Tales, which we grew up with, love and adore, being replaced by Cartoons to the likes of Tweenies, Telly Tubbies and Bob the Builder? And if they are, what impact will this transition have on the current generation of children?

Re: Your Fairy Tales

i personally think they are, children rarely will read a book now, or even be read to...parents will stick a video on to get them to sleep. Usually the Tweenies or Bob the freaking Builder. One thing is for sure we will have no shortage of builders in about 20 years time!

lol, true mate!!
well as for us , my son still can't read but he is more into 'action' stuffs like he pretends to be a character and we have to act as his characters too, that's funny. he enjoys tv and such but still prefer this acting thing, lol

-butts in here for a second-

I love reading.. and I often use to have to baby sit one of my nephew's and I'd always read to him.. before he went to sleep.. he'd go pick out a book hand it to me and I'd read it.. He and his parents eventually moved away on one visit to his house.. when he was aboout 10 I asked him if he reads anymore.. he showed me a little spelling bee trophy and a book he was reading ( I think it was an RL Stine Book)I started talking to him about harry potter books cause i had just read the first one.. and soon enough he'd read it and every one of the books eventually... we always call each other up he's like 13 now and we talk about harry potter lol.. about the 5 books and when the 6th book is coming out and our predictions on it. I just find that cool.

That really is fantastic. It’s great children look up to people as role models, your actions when he was young have obviously meant that he has grown up with a love for books and literature, brilliant.
