Point of View Exercise

Hello everyone. I thought it would be fun to start a point of view exercise. The object here is to write about something from someone or something else’s point of view. It can be anything, from your mom or your dad to your spouse or to a bug on a blade of grass, or the blade of grass it’s self and about anything.

The object here is to be descriptive enough to allow your reader to be able to make a reasonable guess on who’s or what’s perspective you are writing from with out actually saying who or what you are in your writing. For example, if you were a blade of grass writing something like “…the other blades of grass brush up against me in the wind…” would be a no no. Also don’t tell us at the end of your post either, let us guess for a while before you reveal who’s perspective you were writing from.

Remember have fun and let the writing and guessing begin! I will go first. As always any criticism on the actual writing itself is also greatly appreciated.

“My eyes open slowly. The light of the room passes abruptly through my pupils and my face contorts instinctively in pain. Where is she? I wonder as my newly adjusted orbs glance from side to side and up and down. I need her now! I begin to panic as I realize she isn’t here. My mouth opens and I let out that familiar howl that summons her to my side every time.

I call to her for what feels like an eternity, each second that passes bringing new hope that what I seek will be found; each second that doesn’t I find myself growing louder. Soon feeling that all hope is lost I reach the peak of my vocal point, putting everything I have into my infallible call while my mind races in an attempt to make sense of where she has gone and why I’ve been deserted.

A few more seconds trickle by at a pace that could rival watching the leaves change color in autumn before I finally hear the familiar echo of her reposing cadence that I have craved so desperately. What she says is incomprehensible to me, but as it grows closer with each fluctuation of her voice it brings peace to my insufferable wail.

Soon my vision is blocked by something unrecognizable. Is it her? I wonder in anticipation as I wait for my eyes to adjust to the new images in front of me. I feel the soft caress of familiar hands wrapping around my body and I am lifted up and away from the platform I awoke upon moments ago. I never did get a look at her face, but as I feel my ear pressed against her soft flesh I hear a rhythmic drumming resounding from within that I know to be hers. I close my eyes and my lips curve upward. Life is good.”
