Reading: Book Club (Ideas)

Right, firstly it's been great fun reading the Da Vinci Code like this, a masterful book and to read it and discuss it as we went i thought was fantastic. Now a few things probably need smoothing out, the format, how does setting a weekly time scale of pages to be read, for example 15th-20th August Page 50-150. I find it might be easier to figure out and will require less talking about where we are and more talking about the book. Tell me what you think and if you have anything to add this is the place to do it.

That sounds like a good idea... Then people can more decide when they can read and so, when they have time outside school/work... Would be really helpful, at least for me, when I get back to school in one week, I'll have very much trouble having time for other things... As always, has way too much to do this year... emoticon

Any ideas you might have to make the reading club easier and simpler to run, feel free to post your thoughts in this thread.

Well, I like your idea of having a time scale for when you can read what, for maybe the whole book. I know that I at times am more busy than other times, so I might not have time to read that week, then it would be easier if I knew how much I had to read and maybe take some of it the week before... Would be a great help...

well that would work in one way, and would be a good idea, however it does mean you would be susceptible to plot spoilers in the discussion section inadvertently as people can get miles ahead of others and talk about parts of the book that are a long way off.

Yeah, but they can do that anyways, even if we don't have them, people can read further, but hopefully they will be enough aware to not spoil further happenings...

Yeah they can read further at present, but if you limit the weeks reading to say 100 pages, it means you won't read about plot lines that are 300 pages away from where you are, the absolute most you can be behind is 100 pages. Obviously if somebody has a holiday, or work commitments then if they simply say we could all, i'm sure, hold on for a few days until they are free again to keep the discussion more relevant, something i think we missed out on with Da Vinci Code.

True enough....

Ehm, do you seriously mean we shall read 100 pages a week? Because I'm pretty sure I'll lack behind when all my activities gets going in 2 weeks time...

no-no, i'm just using that as a ball park figure at the moment mate, however many pages we agree on, maybe start with 50 and see how that goes, we could always up it or cut it depending how we all get on.
