it's settling a lot of preconceived notions i had about "Asian" people! Sounds terrible but in Britain we get filled with a lot of tosh of a stereotypical Asian person, more people should read this book to dispel that myth!
Out of curiousity, what are the preconceived notions?
Basically what I mean is that around the world, but in the UK in particular, the vast majority of the Asian community are portrayed as religious extremists that don’t embrace other religions apart from their own. Firstly this book opened my eyes to the fact that religion in Asia is as it is around the rest of the world, you have your extremists, fanatics and your average person that is just trying to find themselves spiritually and religiously. You only hear about the extremists and fantastic, which in the grand scheme of things are a vast minority. And introducing an atheist, and his views on religion, make this book better yet still.
No wonder it is a Booker Prize winner!
