I made my wife's (s)hit list and not in a good way

Recently, last Friday, I saw an ad for a reconditioned Unimog that caught my eye. Normally, one that age wouldn’t flip my skirts up but this one was totally rebuilt from the frame up, removing all rust and replacing all worn out parts. It had started life as a Case snowplow but then the brakes went out and the county that owned it let it sit for years until it was purchased by a private party and rebuilt.

The rebuild also changed the cab into the DoKa configuration meaning it’s a crew cab that can now seat 5 adults very comfortably. The interior was replaced and new air ride seats installed with a special rear bench seat that includes headrests and rear electronic connections for gameboys, MP3s and other such toys. With the addition of the crew cab the rear bed had to be custom made and now includes a section for the spare and a ½ ton internally mounted hydraulic crane to lift loads into the bed. This baby also comes with front and rear PTO.

Now the problem. I contacted the owner and wired a down payment with the remainder sent on delivery, actually I pick it up this Friday. But, I didn’t tell the wife that I did this until Monday afternoon.

The **** not only hit the fan, it totally smothered it. You see we already own a 1997 former Bundeswehr Mog that has been repainted and customized and now we’re soon to be the owners of a 1975 Mog. Least ways I hope so.

I know there’s going to be comments on communication and other related relationship topics, but this was too good a deal to pass up. I was looking at it as a family Christmas gift. The wife knows how much I love the first Mog and getting another in this pristine condition is hard to pass up. So far, my ears are blistered by her tirade of adjectives and the volume at which they were delivered. I’ve tried to explain to her how convenient it would be to have a crewcab especially in bad weather when her family visits.

The storm did calm a little when I showed the pictures of it and she did admit that it would be nice to not have to worry about getting stuck somewhere when the snows really hit later this year and this summer when we vacation at our retirement property (very rural and remote). But, she is still on my ass about not discussing it with her first. I know I screwed up and I’m in the process of making it up to her, but this is one damn fine machine.

I’ve already made reservations for this Friday at her favorite restaurant after we pick it up and got a few special items I hope she’ll like. Flowers are due to arrive at her work today and all the way up to Friday.

Only time will tell but I think this new Mog will grow on her or its going to be the hallway sex routine.
