New guy here

Image Image [/img]
Hi guys.
I'm new to this site, and just found out about FAST a few months ago. I have been working on my 71' GTO since I bought it about 2 years ago. I don't know if I'll be able to race this year,as it appears I might need to make a few minor changes. I plan on making what purchases and changes I can depending on my $$ situation this year,so I have a some questions Are these better asked in the "tech" area?.
Thanks,Drake

Hello,

It is not mandatory that you ask questions in the Tech part of the forum, but you will proably get more responses in that area. Your car looks very nice!

Welcome Drake. I recognize you from over on PY. There are a few guys on PY now that run in FAST/FS. Between this board and PY you should be able to get the answers you need. Feel free to PM me if I can help you with anything.

I look forward to seeing you at upcoming FAST or Pontiac events.

 Welcome!!!

Great to have another Pontiac. We may just be starting us a "CLICK".

Any questions just ask! Jeremy and Bruno would be the "A" body experts.

Thanks guys! Goatless, yes it was Scott T's . thread that got me thinking about this further. I have pretty much been doing kind of what FAST has been doing for over 10 years now ,with my last 2 cars.Just my 400 GTO will never be a heavy hitter with a 400.
Well,I'll get the first ones out of the way. After reading the rules,I'm not that far off with my current set -up,BUT my concern is the "stock idle". My car stock would have had NO lope to it,My 221/229@50 gives my 400 a slight lope, but nothing radical? Who's call, and how would I find out? That would be a deal breaker to start,I don't want to change the cam at this point. The engine is also running .027" Cometic head gaskets,is this OK? Other than this, just minor questions I can find out along the way.
How slow are some of these guys running?I would be in it more for fun,not expecting to win. Just hope to get faster as time and $$ allow,if you know what I mean. But I don't want to be out there running 14.0,when the next guy is at 13.0,kinda takes any challange out of it.
Thanks!

I wouldn't worry about the cam, I don't think it would get a second glance from tech. I'd say the way you're set up now you could run with the F/S guys at the races until you step it up a little harder.

The times that you'll see at the races vary by the event. It's not unusual to have a few guys in the 14's. I've been out here a few years with my Lemans, working my way down through the 13's. I hope to get a 12.XX out of it in FAST trim before it's retired when the T-37 is eventually finished. Don't let the times in the 10's and 11's scare you off. This type racing is all about having fun whether you're running 10's or 14's. You can look through the event history on fastraces.org to see what kind of times guys have been running.

Thanks for the info.
One thing going against me is I'm in Wisconsin, the closest race would be Michagan. Very busy rasing 6 kids so 1 event a year might be tops right now anyway. Sounds like alot of fun though, like I mentioned this is pretty much what I do on my own right now anyway.
I hope to have the car in the high 13's this year,as it sits, just working on getting my 60' down!
