LAST MINUTE THRASH

Trying to put the GTX back together after being apart for 3 years, I have honestly spent more time looking for missing pieces than actually putting stuff together. emoticon

So i got the motor all put back together, all fresh, different cam, bigger pushrods, a few other improvements, got it painted and dropped it into the car last weekend. I only had 3 evenings during the week to work on it, but I got every thing all done by Saturday night 10-10. Went to start it up, no spark. Spent 3-1/2 hours figuring that out and found that for some reason I had disconnected the ground wire to the MSD under the dash. emoticon
Started it up sat night, got it warmed up, ran good, sounded good, but smokes a bit.
Sunday AM go out to take it for a spin, hopefully get the rings seated. Discovered oil all over the floor where I had been running it emoticon
Started it up, oil was dripping out of the bellhousing area. Oil was splattered all over under there from the flywheel slinging it. Checked everything over, it was not anything outside the bellhousing, so it had to be the rear seal, the cam tunnel plug, a rear oil gally plug, or the rear seal bridge.
Took it for a drive, got real happy, it felt great to have 700+ horse power under my right foot again! emoticon emoticon

Got home and re-assessed the oil drip. Too much to just let it go, I'd get kicked off the track. Maybe I could put a diaper on it? No, the clutch would get oiley and slip. I was running out of time and considered throwing in the towel for VA. For about 2 seconds! emoticon
So I pulled the trans, bellhousing, flywheel, oil pan, put in a new rear seal, re-sealed the bridge, put sealant on the cam tunnel plug, new sealant between the windage tray and the block. That’s as far as I got last night. So tonight I have to put it all back together. If it doesn’t leak, I still have a ton of stuff to get done, like put the camper on the truck, finish putting a bunch of stuff back together on the car, but I should still make it at the last minute. I have a huge workload at the office for the next couple days, so I'll be burning the midnight oil.
If it still leaks, then I'm screwed for VA.
Wish me luck! emoticon

OK, it's all back together. I need to go to town before work in the morning and buy some oil and fire it up and see if it is no longer the Exon Valdez. FIngers are crossed! emoticon

Re: LAST MINUTE THRASH

Well, I started it up this morning and it leaked just the same as before. Skipped work today to fix it, had it apart and back together 3 times and it still leaks. I am running out of ideas (and time).

Same block, same crank, same seal bridge, 2 different seals, 3 different instalations, (the last 2 very carefull). Cut .015 off the feet of the seal bridge to increase the crush on the seal, that didn't help.

The crank scraper is the only thing different, so tommorrow I am going to remove the scraper and see if that make any difference. Other than that I am running out of ideas. emoticon

Sheila baked 2 pies and batch of cookies for me to bring to the race. She is getting concerned that I might eat them all myself. emoticon

I'm sure open to ideas on this exon valdez-mobile. emoticon

Joel is the seal in the correct way ? Not backwards right?

Also check to make sure that the oil isn't geting trapped between no 5 main cap,the seal retainer and the scraper.Make sure the oil can drain from that area.
