Re: hey Tommy Today it was cloudy and gray all day and the forcast was bad. They ran the rest of qualifiyng and first round of a few classes but by about 3 it opened it up. They decided on Fri that they were not going to run class for stock but for some reason for Super Stock. So they handed out trophys to the low qualifier in each class. Oh well, I wasn't in the game anyway.
That leaves me answer Daves question on "the poop".
The index in I/SA is 12.60 and on my first and only pass I ran a 12.27 at 107.98. So that was .321 under, not really very hot but a place to start. I raced another "I car" and he creamed me. On the bright side when I rolled over the scales I was 110 lbs heavy. I had weighed the car here at the house on Thursday and it was 35 lbs heavy then Jerry added 5 gallons of fuel and then I sat in it. I'm 35 lbs heavier then Jerry so wala 110 lbs heavy. It also went a 1.70 sixty foot and it has gone 1.54. We noticed on the video it had a little stumble on the starting line. Out of 109 cars I qualified at 105.
But I sure wasn't last
Tomorrow I get to go there and put a number on it and run the eliminator. Imagine getting a time run on Friday and putting a "dial in" on the car on Sunday. Wish me luck I have a feeling I'll be eating lunch at home tomorrow.
Re: hey Tommy At 8.30 this morning I rolled into the track and Super Street was in the lanes. By the time I got parked and dropped the trailer door I had heard the wife of the guy pitted next to me say "John they called Stock 5 times" I thought since when do they ever start on time? I went to unhook the car and the one tie down was wedged in between the torsion bar and the k frame. So there I was laying under the car trying to pick up the front of the car and unwedge this tie down. Everybody had something else to do today so I was by myself.
I get the thing out and up into the lanes. I was really rushing and forgot a wrench for the weight box. I had taken fifty lbs out when I thought we were going to run class. Somehow I remembered the weight. I had no choice but to slide it under the seat.
So I left the trailer so fast I didn't think to look at the weather station and now I was jambed for a dial in. A coulpe cars in front of me was the guy I raced on Friday. He ran 11.76 and now he had 11.70 on it. I followed suit...Kinda. I went a 27 and I put a 22 on it.
In the first round you pull into the lanes and run who you are next to. In the second round you run a ladder based on qualifying. Well, just my luck I lined up next to a seasoned vetran. I went up there and did a good burnout, staged and let it rip. Car hooked pretty good and ran good too. Before I new it I was looking at the stripe and the vetran wasn't going to catch me. He did the right thing and nailed the brake and ran me out. I took way to much stripe and I knew it. I hit the brake but it was too late. I went 12.07 on a 22 and he went a 11.30 on a 37. Thats not to mention he had a .013 light and I had a .064.When I got back to the trailer I looked at the weather and it was like 500 feet. Friday it was 1300 feet.
So it was bittersweet, ran further under but got beat up in the first round.
There you have it...My first round of real competition. I'll get'em next time

Off the live timing, since I don't have an account can't see it all. Good job Tom, If it was easy they never would have started bracket racing.
Re: hey Tommy All in all, not a bad time for your first time out. You'll get in the groove. Some of those guys have been doing this for years, you'll get there!

Re: hey Tommy I bet Hartzler has been racing Stock since I was born. When I left there was 8 cars left and he was 1 of em'.He had a .013 light, hard to beat that.
Re: hey Tommy A few pics of "The Stocker." For everyone who is not quite sure what a Mirada looks like.
The Dutch was a cool event. Some of the wheelstands in Super Stock were incredible. A lot of red lights in SS, though, those guys are really set on "kill."
